Title: My 'Check list' For Before, During & After Oil Painting
Post by: Tony (ASM) on November 03, 2011, 07:06:36 PM
I'm wanting to create a 'checklist/reminder' cues for oil painting. I'm not sure if one already exists but, if it does please let me know, it'll save me a lot of time.
Feel free to copy this list and add your own reminders (put your name at the end of it so we know it's newly added)
This list will change as I think of reminder cues. It's not set in concrete and is positively opento change and additions throughout.
Here goes.
What media am I gonna use? (Artisan water mixable oils in my case)
Correct brushes, knives and cleaning equipment.
Got the correct Primary colours and understand which bias they may be. eg. yellow 'undertone' of red or, blue.
Room to paint, safety where kids may be around.
Lighting conditions and directions day or night.
Canvas type & quality. Pre-stretched double or triple primed (triple is the reverse being coated for further protection), Deep edge or, canvas board.
Working environment temperature. Paint & equipment storage.
A one off original or a repeated painting.
Painting style and size of canvas and frame if needed.
What's the subject. Still life, Landscape, Plein Air (outdoor), portrait.
Subject composition and scaling up to size of canvas (use of projector or grid)
Watch or read Nolan & Dennis' info on video replays.
Planning ahead and practice considerations.
Photos of subject (colour, Black n white, Sepia)

I'll add more later..
