Title: Finger Painting by Susan (BeaSue)
Post by: BeaSue on July 14, 2017, 05:08:42 PM
I've decided to break out  for a little fun in a whole new direction--finger painting, using Holbein's water-soluble Duo Aqua Oil paints! I am taking some lessons (video + book) by Iris Scott.

This is my first piece (a lesson). It's on a 16" x 20" canvas panel. Took me about 3 hours. I can't think of anything more different from my usual watercolors. So much fun!

Thanks, Win!

Iris Scott is a great teacher. Here is her website. You can see the entire video that I used for this, and you can order her book from Amazon. The paint is a little pricey. I spent $300 to buy all the paints needed for this one + most of the examples in her book, but I think it's worth it. These are high quality paints.

    Susan, your finger painting is excellent.  I love the "textured" effect, in fact, I would love to do textured flowers at some point.

Thank you, Patricia. When I learned about finger painting with oils, I knew I needed to break out and try this. It's a very freeing feeling.

Can't wait to see yours, too, V! Do you have her book?

I plan to do several more, over the next few weeks. My problem is that I live in a townhouse and just don't have a place to store a lot of oil paintings while waiting for them to dry. Otherwise, I'd probably want to do a lot more.

:heeha: Love these Susan! One thing I have never tried as yet is a koi pond. I love looking at them. The colours in your lady in the leaves are great, very autumnal. Love her yellow boots! I'll bet you are having a lot of fun doing these.

If it's possible to get your hands in and get mucky I love it. No more mediums for me, (for now  >:D ) I'm getting in quite the mess as it is!  ;)

Thanks, Val. In confess that I do wear surgical gloves when doing this, but it is a lot of fun. I'll only be doing 2 more. I don't have enough space to store oil paintings.

I used to love the feel of squishing the paint through my fingers in my much younger years... truth be told, I probably still would!  :heeha:

That is a constant concern with oils, storage is a big factor.

I look forward to seeing your next creation.

Oh Susan - I just saw this posting of your finger paintings - missed the first one - love them both! Dang, I could use some good finger painting today to relieve stress. My son persuaded me to update to the new Apple software, and today all of my folders were gone...several hours later of being on the phone with customer service, most of them are back - but there was a time I would have liked to have fingerprinted all over my computer  I was so upset!!

I must look into the video you posted - I have water soluble oils in my studio just drying to be tried.

Anyway, again, fabulous paintings and looks like such fun!

Not sure I am ready for that yet.
