Title: Pastel and protective spray
Post by: Danielle123 on November 17, 2017, 03:01:01 AM
hi again ,  i have a ? on pastel protection. 10 years ago i had made portraits of my mother for my siblings , now they have faded. I met a pastel artist he said he never puts a spray to protec his artwork.
could  the loss of pigment on my artwork be because of the spray.
thank you

So sorry to hear that they faded. What brand of pastels did you use? I've heard of them going dark because of spray.... what spray did you use? I don't use any fixatives, which for me is fine as they aren't readily available here.

When framing the pastels always try to use a non reflective UV protective glass. Also if the paintings were hung where direct sun, or even in a brightly sunlit room they can fade just as w/c will.
