Cyril,

Your drawings look so professionally done.  Like illustrations in a text book.

Circles and ovals are the hardest thing for me. Seems there is always one little section that always goes skew!  :crazy2:

You're doing very well Cyril. Both of these examples are great.

Cyril, I think these look really good.  I have a little tool I use for any life drawing including still lifes.  Cut out a one half inch by four inch piece of cardboard and place dark lines at the quarter, half and three quarters mark.  Hold it up vertically or horizontally, aligning the top with the top of what you are drawing and then move your arm back and forth until the very bottom aligns with the bottom of what you are drawing.   You can then see what lands on the half way mark, quarter  mark, etc.  On your drawing paper, decide how large you want your object and put a mark at the top and bottom of that distance.  Then find the one fourth and three fourth marks.  Now you can transfer the information easily from your cardboard stick to your drawing surface. This helps enormously with correct proportion.   I made several of these cardboard sticks of different sizes to use for small still lifes and plein air, outside.  Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for sharing that, Lynn.

I will need to read it about 3 or 4 times, then when I can understand it, I will make a couple.

:thankyou:  All -  Mea , Val , Lynn , Harwant for your comments.

:thankyou:  Lynn for the tips , will certainly try this!.  :1hug:

I have been using the pencil technique to measure the angles , height & width of the objects as described in Nolans Lets draw Course - Day 25. so far  all my Live  drawings have done using the pencil measuring technique. will stick to this technique for sometime.

Cyril,

Nice work.  It's inspiring to see people practicing on simple things around the house.  I need to do more of that.

:thankyou:, Lyn... For some reason I can't make the pencil technique work, so your little strip of cardboard might help me too.  :thankyou: also to Cyril for the reference to Day 25 of the Let's Draw course... I've been meaning to spend more time drawing, and this might just be the nudge I need. Impressed with that chair, by the way, including the shadow. I tend to forget shadows.

Linley, you will love the little cardboard trick!  It works so perfectly and I use it along with a sighting stick.  However it is wonderful and very quick to get basic landmarks on your paper when drawing from life.  Sometimes I feel I am cheating but couldn't do without it. If it doesn't make sense I could try and photo one.
Cyril, really impressed with how you get your elipses and the plumblines for symmetry.  Awesome.

These are all great rough sketches. I would love to do stuff like this but I keep getting caught up in details  :crazy2: can't seem to help myself. I shall have to work on this.

I can't see the screens well enough to work on mobiles. Really great that you can do that, very quick to do I should imagine, this is really going to help with your paintings as well.      Once land based I'll be going back to a proper desk type computer with larger screen.

Cyril

Will send healing thoughts for the health of your father.

It's good to see that I am not the only one drawing while riding the bus.

Nice sketches.  I notice you do it the correct artist's way by leaving in your construction lines.  Makes it look so professional.  I have got to get rid of my habit of erasing those lines.
