Title: Digital time
Post by: Gita on February 27, 2018, 08:37:20 PM
Went digital again on a long haul flight. This smear and paper free art is really fun to design. This is a fairy tale theme.  Love to hear your comments.

Love it, it's both magical and mystical.  Nice palette of colors.

Gita, some questions:

1. What is  the learning curve like on Procreate for the iPad?
2. Do you have a regular iPad or the iPad Pro?
3. Did you use the Apple Pencil or your finger?
4. Does the Apple Pencil work on a regular iPad (not Pro)?
5. Would another, cheaper stylus work?

Thanks!

I have been working with pro create for a year now. At first I was slow, since I used the trial and error method to use the app. I thought it would be self explanatory, but it is not so. The learning curve got better after watching some free videos on Utube. It’s better to get to know some basics about the buttons.

I think, I am still a beginner in Pro Create since this app can do a lot more than what I know right now. There are some great digital paintings out there done with pro create.

I use IPad Pro (12,9 Inches) and an apple stylus. I love to hold the stylus in my hands to take notes on a regular basis, draw and paint. But you can also use your fingers to paint.

It’s also great fun and relaxing to paint since there is no need at all to prepare! If I find my fingers itching to be creative I take my IPad out!

BeaSue, I can’t answer questions 4 and 5, but if you have an iPad, I suggest you get the answers in an apple shop.

Hope I am helping  with these answers.  :smiley6600:
I would really love to see your work if you decide to use this app!

Such a beautiful picture Gita.
I've still to enter the digital world. I only have the iPad Air and I believe the Apple pencil doesn't work with that.

 :thankyou: Mea, Val, Bill!
A nice feature in the digital technique is I can remove the layer of this background completely and add another one. But I think I am keeping this.

Not having a iPad Pro I couldn't download the Procreate so I have the free app Adobe Illustrator. Very restricted for detailed stuff, good for cartoons and comics though. Any way after playing around for a few hours I ended up with this. A picture I took some years ago of a young girl in Samoa.

Thank you Patricia. Thanks Bill. I suggest you check “Udemy.com” There is a tutorial from Brad Colbow which is very informative to learn Procreate.
I learnt the symmetry function in this tutorial which fascinated me and with which I drew these Mandalas below. It was so much fun and calmed my mind, too.

They look fantastic Gita, I don't have Procreate as I don't have Ipod Pro. I'm getting by with the free app Adobe Illustrator. Not that I'm doing much lately. Concentrating on my Water Colours.

Oh yes, Bill you mentioned earlier that you have an IPad Air.
The digital art you’ve presented till now makes it look like with IPad Air art can be done equally well.
Thanks Mea! I love drawing fine curvy lines.
Thanks Val! I suggest you don’t follow all the curves with your eyes... and step back a little 😂😂

Thank you Zilpa, Dennis, Mea!
The card is for an upcoming event.
We have an yearly tradition of celebrating something we call “chestnut blossom celebration” where we invite friends to our home. From the terrace of our house we have a view over a park full of chestnut trees which blossom every June. This awakening of nature is really breathtaking. This year,  I suggested that that I paint chestnut flowers for the invitation. Normally, we send an Email to everybody and not a printed card.
A digital version would be in a good quality for an email invitation, I think.
I plan to do a couple more and choose the best.  :)
Would love to hear your thoughts to this.

Gita,

Sounds like an excellent plan.  The chestnut blossom card will be perfect for it.

The one good thing about making several prototypes is that you have more to mat or frame for gifts later on.
