Title: Morning Boat Ride
Post by: EmmaLee on March 08, 2018, 04:53:31 PM
Here is a painting I did of my husband's friend taking his new boat out for the very first time. I used a photo my husband took as reference. I really don't know how I feel about this one. I painted it a little looser than I usually do and I'm worried it looks more cartoon than real. I'd love to know what you think.

Thank you Patricia. I was mostly concerned about the water and the man. Particularly his crab claw of an arm.  :2funny:
I was going for realism and I was worried I didnt get it. Thank you for your comment!

Emma Lee,

No way is this cartoonish.  This guy is going to love it!

The sky, the ripples on the water, the clothes - all show that you know what you are doing - You have great art skills!

You nailed it!  Great metal and reflection work.  The figure, and the boat, is in the grey area as the sun goes down.  The back of the shirt is a bit darker and is just in the area before the color turns black.

The angle, and such, is painted right on.  I had to take another look since you mentioned 'crab claw'.
