I was inspired by P B member "Trev" to look at and appreciate the masters works.
Cezanne did this in Oils, I have tried Watercolour and found it very difficult but challenging. I couldn't replicate the colour and brush stokes but I am happy with my first attempt.

Excellent job Bill. We will be seeing lots of paintings and works similar to this on Dia de los Muertos. the end of next month. A big celebration in the Latin Caribbean countries.

In Mexico the holiday falls on the first and second of November. In Guatemala I believe (if I remember rightly), is to the third. It is a celebration of family and friends (all who went before), and consists of numerous ceremonies. I'll have to put together a post for it.
Families go to the grave sites and clean and decorate the graves with paint, flowers, photos, food and candles. Family and friends will 'picnic' at the graves in celebration and remembrance. In Guatemala they also have a giant kite festival with paper kites some of which we've seen measure 35' across. Yes they actually fly them! It is a beautiful and mostly happy time for all. Bittersweet would be an apt description. Some people paint their faces as skulls, some quite decorative. Quite the experience if you've never been before.
There are lots of photos and information if you want to google it.
