Illusion of Movement Challenge
This is the third of the art challenges.
If you would like to follow the challenges in order (you don't have to), then click HERE (https://paintbasket.com/using-patterns-in-art/)to go to the first challenge.
Follow this challenge tutorial HERE (https://paintbasket.com/illusion-of-movement-in-art/)to learn all about creating the illusion of movement in your artworks.
Your challenge is to use two of the illusion methods explained in the tutorial to create an artwork which makes the viewer feel like the focal point of the artwork is moving.
Bonus points if you come up with something creative and outside the box for the focal point.
Then return here to post your challenge entry.
All challenges are subject to the CHALLENGE RULES (https://paintbasket.com/members/index.php?topic=15404.0).
Good luck and have fun

I gave up. The painting does not seem to post to the right place. Bonsiman
-
Hi Bonsaiman,
What are you trying to do?
I see you entry.
You do not need to 'quote' to reply... Just hit 'reply' and write what you like. I see you figured out how to use the [smg id=nnnnnn] feature. It is the most challenging  the rest is easy.
-
Lovely entry Bonsaiman!!
-
Great entry!
-
I have removed the quote so it is just the photo now. O0

Me too Annie!Maybe after the challenge we can start a thread to understand this a bit more!
-
Thanks Val, Annie and JayJ. Whoops ... I didn't read properly, I need another movement. ???
Can someone relocate this please?
-
First post on this page, from Nolan, has the link.
It is:

-
I see two movements here. Her hair is clearly moving. It could be from wind, but to me it looks like she is dancing, so implies a second movement - her body. (her mouth is open so she may even be singing)
-
Here is my entry, "Stampede", done with watercolor and a little ink, on 300 lb cold pressed paper.
-
Here's mine: The sea is showing movement and the clouds have a little motion blur...
-
:smitten: the stampede and the rolling clouds Mary Lou.
-
Robynann, great wave action and a definitely stormy sky.
-
Mary Lou,
Beautiful watercolor! Sure lost of movement in your Stampede.

-
Robyn Ann,
Also very beautiful! Storm is in the air, hold on to your hat!

-
Beautiful entries !!!!
Mary Lou...👏👏👏
Robynann.. 👏👏👏
-
Thanks sooo much Bill, Annie and Jay.... :thankyou:
-
Wow wonderful entries & so inspiring.
Here's mine. There's plenty of action poses & meant to be motion Blur on the eagles wings & some distant rain. Hope it fits the brief.
Cheers Tracey
-
Fabulous entries so far,
Bill, lots of energy in your ladies movements
Marylou, your stampede almost had me running
Robyn Ann, my favourite time on the beach when a storm is brewing and the sea is churning.
Tracy, the little creatures sure are moving fast to escape the bird of prey.
Good luck everyone :gl:
-
Oops, thought I remarked on your stormy sea Robyann, I think it looks great!
Trace your Eagle, rabbit and snake are great!
Thank you Bill, Annie, Jay, Trace and Win.
-

-
All of your paintings are so inspiring and sooo well done Bonsaiman, Mary-Lou, Roby-Nann, Trace, Bill!!
-
Here is my entry in the challenge.
You can see that the plane is landing as it’s wheels are down and the perspective of the lights also adds to the illusion....I think :2funny: :2funny: It’s obviously not taking off.
This is in Watercolour on 300lb cold pressed paper.
-
Really good    good composition and colours
-
:thankyou: Bill
I love you ships too.
Also love all the entries. All so unique and thought provoking.

-
Bill well done
Nice eve plane landing
-
very creative entry Bill, love it :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:
Terri, fabulous painting - you can add motion blur to this by gently lifting out some of the paint by the engines to indicate the heat trail O0
-
Sorry Bill..don’t know how I missed your entry...beautifully done.Has calming effect!
Such lovely variety of entries!!
-
:thankyou: EVERYONE for your encouraging comments.
-
The landing plane is so good, Terri!
-
Oh Yay :) Love your painting Terri - so clever  and Bill love your ships painting, & the effect of the star movement is really cool
Thanks all for your lovely comments, I was wanting to draw 1 of those little birds that always chase the eagles, but ran out of steam - always my imagination far exceeds my capabilities :2funny:
The little rabbit was meant to be a bilby, but for the life of me I couldn't get his Left ear to behave, so maybe I'll name him a Bilbit. :) BTW he made his escape safely & the snake would've been safe if I had've put the little pestering bird in to distract the eagle!
Cheers Tracey
-
Thank you for explaining the story behind your painting Tracey.
I did not know that one can have too much imagination. Good for you, you won't run out of creativity any soon.
-
:thankyou: Mary Lou, Annie, Gita and Tracey for your lovely comments.
And of course Nolan ::) Not sure what you mean but I told my husband who is a plane addict and he kind of explained to me what to do, even though he is blind so can’t actually see the painting. I will give it a crack! ;D ;) :help:
-

-
My submission of the Illusion of Movement challenge.
I call this What happened.
My movements I feel is an action pose as he is about to bite or make noises and the second one is perspective as he is moving forward (in my mind) Also some movements in the clouds.
The submission is a bit out of the box I think and also not perfect.
My reason for naming it What happened - 1. what led the horse to this action? 2. My son just said what happened when he saw this. (Not my best I know, been struggling to get back into art)
-
Very different and I like it alot!!!
-
I like it, it looks great, well done Maryna

Lovely contribution Riyal
Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments Riya!In fact everyone did so well in this challenge!
If not for Nolan, and ever encouraging PB family...I don’t think I would have had courage to create my own artwork!
-
:thankyou: Zayn, for the nice comment.
Yes, Nolan made so many of us turn to love creating and showing our art. He and Dennis do make us feel like real artists, capable to do so much more then we thought we would be able to. Their classes are just great and they help you with so many things, but most of all they make you feel worth showing what you created, even when it is just a simple lesson like drawing a bal. And I love :smitten: it how they test us, :coffee: push us further  on the step of being artists :painting: ...your gorgeous piece of art shows it too well.
I think most of us wouldn't be any further then trying to draw a simple ball looking like a bal. :2funny: Nolan and Dennis just know what we are able to :smart: ...better then we do and I like that a lot :nosey: .
Being ill and not into art did give me the feeling of being on hold or worse, going back to where I was years ago when I started here at first in 2012. But after doing these first three little sketches I am surprised that it didn't took long to make a decent drawing, and my favourite is Fever, :smitten:
-
Yes Riya I really admire you..in spite of all odds u fight to come back!So good to see you around!I was away too for awhile..but it is so wonderful whenever you come back you can just start off where u left and feel so welcomed!
Thank you Riya! You said all I wanted to say so aptly.
Yes they let us grow at our own pace pushing our boundaries little further ,gently, each time!
Dennis And Nolan :flowers:
-
:) :thankyou: So much for your very kind words, they mean a lot to me :flowers: .
Have a wonderful Sunday. I hope to start today with challenge 4, the textures. I have something in mind, see if I can work that out, :coffee:  :coffee: :) :painting: :smitten: .
-
Hi Riya, although we haven't met before ( I'm new to PB) I just wanted to say that I am in awe of your art work. I feel very blessed that I fell onto PB & it's been wonderful journey learning to draw, but also seeing so many inspiring artists work, stories, battles here.
Also I take heart in all that you have said (In your converation with Zayn... sorry to but in) and all you have aptly said. :thankyou:
-
:thankyou: So very much Trace, for your very kind comment. :bigwelcome: to this wonderful community, better late then never said :) .And never dont mind to but in :) , that's just where these posts are for. When we didn't want to interact with other artists, we would use PM's, :) . So never hold back when something makes you want to reply, even when that person has a conversation with someone else.
PB and this whole big family kept me from going insain or getting depressed again. And I am so happy to be back ..again, and see all my old friens again and meet new inspiring artists, like you.
BTW I absolutely love the Daily Drawings from the wales you have made, they are awesome.Drawing is my old time favourite, always done and it saved me several times from going mad. And aldo teachers saw my ability to draw, they tested me by giving me more difficult tasks then others, I always had doubt in my skills.
When I was a teen my mentor thought I should join Art Academy, but I was so scared and had so little selfconfidence...I ripped all the drawings I had made in pieces, so I had nothing to show at the entrance examination for a place in one of the classes. Stupid ofcourse, but I didn't felt sorry for doing so right there and then. And here I just picked up my favourite again, drawing...till today the most loved thing I like to do. Especially hatching and crosshatching is something I absolutely LOVE!!!
Well, I have to make some breakfast, allready up since 6 am and it is now almost 9, :) .Have a wonderful Sunday Trace, and enjoy some art. :1hug:
-
nice entry Riya. It makes you feel like you are dancing
-
:thankyou: Nolan, I just played with the glitter gelpens thinking about what I could draw for this challenge, :) Didn't need to think too long :2funny: . Never thought about dancing, but yeah, it looks like Balroom Dancers swirling around, or those Derwish Dancers.
-
Different but I feel the motion.
-
:thankyou:
-
Thank you so much Nolan!!!!
I know it is your Masterplan to get me sketching!!!
