Title: Vacation drawings
Post by: Gita on December 10, 2019, 08:43:43 AM
Relaxing for some days in Goa. My travel painting kit goes along, of course. Do comment.
This is one of the most beautiful flowers I’ve seen. I shall upload the photo and invite fellow artists to paint this.

This is the view from the restaurant. Far away some fishermen with a net.

Teaching a small girl who coaxed her parents to go to the nearby town to buy some paints and paper. Really fun!

Thanks Mary Lou, Nolan, Bill! It’s so mood lifting to teach children. Some more kids might join me today. The next time I might have to get some supplies like better paper and brushes.  :painting:
Cath, visiting my relatives and also catching up some sunlight. Berlin is rainy now in November and it can even last sometimes till March. It seldom snows and does not stay long.  :)
Bill, here is the photo. Looking forward to your rendition.

Thank you so much for your botanical expertise, Cath! I looked it up and so good to know more about this plant, the mountain ebony. It seems to have medicinal properties and also used in food.
Oh, you are at the beautiful Boden See in Germany! Love that place!

Thank you Jay!!

Patricia,
We also had a number of snow falls in the West in the last 4 weeks.  Actually, it started end Sep.  I managed to escape for 2 weeks but the drawback is very limited internet access.  Found a public coffee shop with internet and quickly I am catching up, but very limited time.  So off I go.  At least no snow to shovel here but lots of work on my plate. Patricia stay warm!

After Dragon’s portrait was successful, now I have some people queuing to be drawn!
This is the next one of another bartender who is also a tattoo specialist. The likeliness is around 80%.

Good one Gita,  Charming all the bar men ... free drinks?   :drunk:
Title: Re: Vacation drawings
Post by: Gita on December 17, 2019, 06:04:46 AM
Bill, let me explain. Goa is experiencing a big drop of tourists this year. Reasons assumed are the collapse of Thomas cook, Brexit and the increase of visa charges for Russians from 40$ per person to a 100$. Goans earn mainly from tourism from November to March. In the other seasons the monsoon rains are very heavy or the summer is too hot.
So as far as free drinks are considered, I prefer paying.  :(. I would have a bad conscience otherwise.   >:( 8)

Visiting some Old Goa Monuments. Did you know that the Greek geographer, Ptolemy, of 02nd century AD referred Goa as „Kouba“?
With the Advent of religious orders like the Franciscans, Jesuits, Dominicans and others many beautiful churches, convents and a Cathedral were erected in Old Goa.
Trying to catch the beauty with some plein air sketches.

The Altar of the Basilica of Bom Jesus is dedicated to the infant Jesus. This church contains the relics of the body of St. Xavier.

Who has not tasted these fruits? If so, you should really try them sometime! They are so so tasty. They can’t be transported to other countries due to their low shelf life.

Bill, just saw your painting of the beautiful flower! Lovely!!!!

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is a Catholic church built in 1544–1547, the oldest church still standing in Old Goa.
This is the main altar painted from a photo.

Getting fond of sketching churches  :painting: :painting: Drawn with a calligraphy pen. The ink was not permanent, realised it later.
This church was built by Theatines in 1661, after St.Peter church in Rome.

This is another great tropical fruit which I simply love. The sun ripe papayas are so flavourful und tasty. Unfortunately, the ones which are exported are too raw to get the sweetness of the tropics. No wonder this fruit was also the favorite of Christopher Columbus.
