Title: Jennifer Lopez
Post by: patindaytona on February 12, 2013, 05:17:37 PM
Made my mind up to take it easy. Local art league has a showing about 5 times per year. I'll focus on each one. So, I have a deadline..say in two months to make a painting.
Much of the time it's people oriented. Is it copywrite material if i painted say..Jennifer Lopez?

I dont think so cause if your just painting a portrait how could it be; lots of people have done portraits of like Einstein.  but then again, i dont know very much about copy rights; so paint on brother, paint on.

Copyright issues would kick in if you painted her from a particular photograph that was copyrighted. Someone could then say, I was the one who took the photo of her at the Oscars, with Fred, wearing the green strapless number holding the black purse, in front of the yellow sign, and it was only published in XYZ magazine etc.

If you painted her as you saw her in your head, I wouldn't think there was an issue.

Here is my logic and i spent ALOT of time figuring this out..
I start out painting things for 15 min. and after that I am going back and changing what I have painted because I'm doubting what I have done at that point. After that it just speeds up...changing AS i go, every brush stroke literally many times for up to 5-6 hours. I ruin it.

I am pretty sure of what i do up to 15 min. So....
If I'd leave it, and never have done this...who knows how good it would be!!   I'm pretty confident up to 15 min.
Otherwise, I am comprehending all the tonal relationships of 15, 30, 2 hours...ago and trying to judge them according to the TIME put in it. It's too much for me. My vision is totally distorted. I would say even blind...seriously..i have been to where i cannot see at all's weird.
I have a unique "illness" that i cannot describe very well to you, but have tried.  I will have to work accordingly to IT, otherwise...I'm submitting myself to the ILLNESS rather than being productive as should be.
