Two beautiful paintings, Dorothy and Maria... Each so different, yet both so lovely!
-
This is my April painting chalange. It is true that I finished in March! It was posted on my file a while ago, but I did not like the picture. I took another picture, and here it is. This is done before I started taking classes here at PB. I love mountains! Doina
-
Maria, nice painting. Doina, the challenge is specific to the photograph chosen See the first post in this thread.
Here is my entry..in watercolor...
-
Good painting Mary Lou. You really featured the mountains. Well done.
-
Thank you, I am new and I did not go to the first page. Thanks for telling. Hopefully I'll be able to do the painting by the end of April, Doina
-

Hey! Nice paintings showing up here! O0 I just know voting will be as difficult as ever in the end.
Dorothy, I'm really impressed with your evergreens, so well done! :congrats:
-
Nice, Mary Lou! This is so pretty.
-
pfew, you're so quick!
Nice entries again.
Last time I saw a real mountain must be 35 years ago, it feels a bit odd painting them.
But when the portraits give me some space I'll surely try!!!
-
Thank you Dorothy, Maria, Lillian, Sarah and Germa.
-
:bigwelcome: To PaintBasket Doina. It's great to have you on board.
-
:thankyou: Lillian. :flowers:
-
  Very nice entries into the challenge Maria and Mary Lou. Haven't even started on mine yet. Patricia

-
:thankyou: Patricia and Denise.
-
Here's my watercolour entry :)
-
Pretty coloring Denise! You have done well, and it wasn't a paint along. :painting: You are on your way. Oh my, I should try this, but I'm still lost in the forest of the drawing challenge. More trees!!!! Say it isn't so!!!
-
Thank you Sarah :)
I just started the drawing challenge and I'm not looking forward to all those trees :o
-
love your interpretation denise well done, good job on the trees by the way
-
Denise, I like the light you captured and love your trees. Very nice painting! :flowers:
-
   Denise a lovely, bright, happy painting. Very nicely done. Patricia
-
Okay Jennylynn. I like the way the trees turned out too. It's your fault by the way, because you gave me the tip (on another post) on using a bristle brush to get that effect! So - you get the credit for the trees! :1hug:
:thankyou: Mary Lou and Patricia :thankyou:
-
i got alittle carried away on the mountains, and kept on going on the rest, ::) i removed the painting from the challenge and have started another one , i do understand that the true challenge is to keep within the true composition of the picture picked, whats why it is called a challenge or lesson, i can't draw, but my mind and hand go into another world with a paint brush :1hug:
-
Looks great grandmapegi  :twothumbs:
-
aahh!!denise so you used the bristle brush technique, works great doesn't it O0 told ya your trees looks good :yippee:
-
;) Thanks for the tip Jennylynn :smitten:
-
Nice painting grandmapegi
-
   I agree with Pappy!!!
-
Love the clouds and mist Pegi!
-
Nice to see all those different interpretations of 1 picture, and they all look so great!
-
  Beautiful painting Grandmapegi, Everything is excellently done. However, it is somewhat different from the subject picture we were given and am wondering about it for I never know just how far one can go with their own interpretation of a given subject. Would be interesting to have some guidelines on this. However, as I said, your picture is gorgeous and you can be so very proud of what you have done. Patricia
-
Patricia, this discussion came up in the composition section earlier. I'm not sure if your rad it or not. You and I have talked about it before, and the opinion I gave was not the correct response. Here is the word from the chief from a discussion in the Composition Forum. Val says:
"Hi Guys, just spotted this discussion. If this painting is for the competition, you must paint the picture in the photograph. The colour scheme used is your choice. The composition must stay as true as possible to the photograph, otherwise it isn't the same picture. Minor changes will come about in each painting reflecting each individuals perception of the photo, but there has to be a limit somewhere, so moving/redesigning mountains is a definate no-no.Paint what you see."
Maybe she could sticky this at the top of challenge forum. It has really cleared it up for me. My pencil drawing is definitely not fulfilling that definition, but I'm going to finish as is and post it, but not as a challenge entrant. It is still a challenging learning experience for me, and a good exercise in composition. Fun too, except for getting lost in that woods so long. :2funny:
-
:thankyou: Sarah for your explanation and for directing me to the "rules" which is what I thought. No, I did not read the discussion in the composition section so was unaware of it. However, what did come to mind after viewing Grandmapegi's beautiful painting was Tina's first painting in the last challenge which was not accepted as it was different from the chosen subject painting and others who had submitted a different painting from the subject. Yes, I think it would be a good idea for Val to put these instructions under the challenge's chosen subject for all to see, especially the new comers as it would really spell it out and clear up any possible misunderstanding.
Sarah, you are not alone for we have all been lost in the woods at some point. However, we have wonderful friends to shout "Polo" and rescue us. :2funny: :2funny:
Patricia
-
Ok guys......as of the May challenge, it will be spelled out at the top of every challenge. O0 So I guess we can be a little more lenient this month. How's that? ;)
-
Nice work Grandmapegi. O0
Val, thanks for clearing up the challenge guidelines.
-
:urwelcome:
-
i will start another one and stick to the guidelines, i just got carried away once i got going. :flowers:
-
I think she's giving us a pass this time Pegi. Next month you and I are going to have to behave!! :2funny: We love ya' Val! And you make perfect sense. Oh! And Pegi, your painting is lovely!
-
Pegi.. your painting is great.. love your colors!
Nice suggestion Sarah. Why is it rules are so hard to remember? I have to keep going back time after time .. after I didn't pay close attention the first time :crazy2: .. and then I still go back..
(not just here.. generally speaking. I'm sort of one of those "If at first you don't succeed, try reading the directions." !!
-
Why is it rules are so hard to remember?
'cause we generally don't like rules! :2funny: :2funny: Most of us would rather not have any rules!!
Ogden Nash said: In the world of mules there are no rules Kinda think I agree with him! :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:
-
My try this time. Acrylic on streshed canvas 50x60cm.

Mary Lou, Denise and Patricia... Seem to have missed your paintings... sorry.. You have all done a very nice job... Oh, and Pegi... yours is wonderful as well! This will be hard to judge.
-
Here is my first attempt at doing the challenge. It was fun, but made me realize that I have a long way to go in learning how to handle watercolor. :)
-
Oh my!!! You did a beautiful job!!!!! The first step to learning to handle watercolor is to acknowledge that the watercolor is in charge. :2funny: The trees are gorgeous. I have a sense that there are as many branches coming toward me as out to the sides! Well done.
-
O0 O0 O0 Very nice painting Scribe. Good for you.
-

-
Well done Elizabeth, really good trees.
-
Way to go, Elizabeth! Just jump in with both feet. Well done. Now the photo. I see you go it into your album. Now just click on 'details' under your photo in your album. Look for the imbed code which appears underneath. [smg id=xxxx] now you just have to hit reply in the correct topic and type in that code exactly as you see it--no extra spaces and must be in brackets. Easy peasy once you know how.
-
You don't have to type in the BBC embed code, Sarah. You can copy it and then paste it in the reply using CTRL V (Hold the Control key and tap V). No typing errors that way.
-
O0 ctrl C & ctrl V .... when it comes to the challenges....my best friends! ;D
-
Dear Sarah, Ray & Val,
