Crumbs, I thought that I had booked this lesson when I did my block booking. Oh! Well, I will enjoy seeing all your paintings. Dennis, have a wonderful, safe holiday, I do believe S.A. has changed a lot, waiting to hear from a friend who has just arrived back from holidaying there and she said there are so many changes which she will tell us about when she catches up with her sleep. I guess it is no longer the country we grew up in. Nevertheless, enjoy the time with your family/friends and we look forward to resuming lessons after your holiday. God's blessings. Patricia
-
wow that was a good class, trying to keep up lol now dennis is going on his hols, by the way dennis enjoy, will have a go at the replays.
-
Jennylynn--I missed today's class but sad because WOW girl look at what you produced. Very impressed indeed. Congrats!!
-
 Jenny!!!
I'm also going to have another go with the replays...I wish I had left out the green building like Dennis. :-\
-
Natalie--This is such a classical looking painting. Just beautiful subtle colors. Great!
-
Well first time every painted along with dennis .....Must say it was fun :)
-
You are the 3 musketeers! :heeha: Fantastic. I was getting behind with the masking! Course I had the artisticat back for a visit. :D So helpful.
I doubt I could have kept up anyway. Brilliant paintings
-
Beautiful all 3 of them.   O0 O0 O0 !!!! I decided few weeks ago, that I will watch the class, and then paint with replay. I can't keep up with Dennis. This way I know what to expect. Thank you Dennis for a great class. Wish you a happy hollyday, and a safe return. Doina
-
I agree with Val. You all did admirably. And there is something unique in each one. This was not easy. I fell behind during window construction. There are a lot of people in Venice with no view of the canal right now. But I'm having a hot cup of chai then go back to the finishing touches. Oof! This was a tough one. Congratulations on not only keeping up but doing wonderful paintings. Later. Promise. C'mon Val. We can still pull this one off!
-
Nice gondolas and it's amazing how different all the paintings are Bhavna, Lynne and jenny. I realised i should have had the photo to look at when it was too late but here is my version.
-
    Wow, Jennylytnn, Natalie, Bhavna and Karen for your superb paintings. It would seem as though I missed a good class. You all did so well and they are all different which makes it so interesting. Good for you all. Patricia
-
They are wonderful!! You girls did a real bang-up job. Thanks for sharing, and I'm honored to be in the class with these awesome artists.

-
And here is mine. Oof. Adjusted the photo to get some of the orangey back into the buildings, and I see I've lost my nice greeny water. Oh well. Imagine some nice greeny water and a blue sky and its close. I have never done anything this intricate. Now that I kind of understand what is where it would be good to do it again. I like your approach, Dennis with a casual interpretation of buildings and bridge, etc. Thank you for the lesson on a blustery wet afternoon. Oops, forgot the painting.
-
WOW these are all fantastic, I love them all. I love seening the different interpretations of the same picture. I'm looking forward to getting a bit more experience so I can have a go at this one.
-
here's sarah's gondola, hope you don't mind sarah but see you forgot to put it in. all the excitement of the painting lol anyhow sarah well done
-
Banner work Karen :heeha:    Your version has a touch more realism to it, excellent. O0
-
Sarah, great job. I haven't been able to do anything more with mine, I'll see if I can salvage it....if not I'll just try again. ::)
Still working on the turtle... :crazy2:
-
I had to jump in here and see these beautiful paintings after seeing the thumbnails. Jennylynn, Natalie, Bhavna, Karen and Sarah, you all did such wonderful paintings. They are great! I see there is a lot of detail in this and a lot of perspective. Wow,very impressive work and O0 to you all!
-
  O0 O0 Well done each and every one!!
Congratulations to all of you, I'm sure you have made Dennis proud!
-
Karen, just beautiful. I really like the water and atmospheric perspective you have in the buildings. Sarah, another beautiful rendition. I like the limited pallet.
-
O0   Sarah, a beautiful painting for sure. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's work as there was so much detail in the picture and I was wondering how you all managed to paint-a-long! Wonderful and no doubt a good exercise for there would be no time to "fiddle". Awesome job by you all. Patricia
-
:thankyou: everyone for your wonderful comments. That's true this was not the easy one. Karen, Sarah, Jennylynn and Natalie You all did awesome work. :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:
-
Well goodness me, wow guys you have really outdone yourselves. Those are fantastic paintings, great work everyone
-
VAL!!!!!! You don't look like a Thanksgiving turkey after all!!!! :2funny: Love the photo avatar. Thanks everyone for the comments for all of us paintalongers. Dennis gets the credit for the perspective work! Thank goodness. But it is good for me to see how it does work, how it can be simplified and represented. Thanks JennyLynn for looking after me. I needed care and tending after that workout! Fellow paintalongers--well done!!! Well done Dennis! I was a little nervous before this one, but kept thinking "Dennis is going to hold your hand all the way through." Which would have made it difficult for either of us to hold a paintbrush, come to think of it. :heeha:
-
Dennis doesn't stop long enough to hold anybody's hand :run: :heeha: :2funny:
Since its past thanksgiving, decided its time to shed those feathers and show my face. Didn't scare ya did I?
-
Oh! Val, it is so nice to put a face to a name and you look so tanned and healthy. Absolutely vibrant. Patricia
-
I'm afraid that tanned lady looks like she got dumped in a flour bag now  Had forgotten how long winters can be up here. :cold: ;D
-
6:20AM and I'm touring Venice!!!
I setting here thinking about how far we have traveled together, It has been as awsome journey! Dennis has been an fantastic "travel guide" and the paintings you all produced of the gondolas shows how well we are "mastering the language" of this ( for many of us) new country.
I feel very honored to be sharing this journey with you all!!.... and as soon as I can get my "laces tied" , I'll scamper along to catch up :2funny: , Dennis enjoy your time in SA!!!
Off to the "construction site".. "She-who-must-be-obeyed :knuppel2: :knuppel2: " wants her kitchen done by friday and I just started tearing out the old cabnets late yesterday :hammer: :hammer: :run: :run: :run: :run: Again, wonderful job everybody , I'm ery blessed to be part of this family of choice
Brian
-
Well hop to it then! :knuppel2: Oh, you might want to consider painting a few nice scenes in the back of the cupboards...just think how nice it would be for Val to open a cupboard and see a lovely gondola scene, or a peaceful seaside scene, or a........
Just a thought....
-
:2funny: :2funny:
-
Nice job everyone.. I took pictures of the gondolas in Venice. These paintings brought back memories.
Val.. nice to see your face. A flour bag dusting isn't a bad look... it's more beautiful every day after skin cancer. Remember to wear your sunscreen and your hat!! Anyway the beauty lies beneath.. and you already have that!
-
 :1hug:
-
Brian, what a nice commentary on this time we spend together. A kitchen by Friday! Yikes. :crazy2:
-
did this today, thought I would try another painting but slightly different to what we did in the class, any comments or critique
-
I really like this Jenny :smitten: ..Well done O0 O0
-
Nice twist Jen O0 I had to make a few minor ... maybe some not so minor ( ) changes to mine. Got .. how should I put it? A wee bit mucked up trying to keep up ::) Have to sort out a few more background bits...and foreground bits...and paint the gondolas. See? Almost done! ;D
I like the water colour very much, what do you think about darkening the gondola hulls for a bit more contrast? I know...go ahead...give me the boot. :eyesclosed:
-
:thankyou: mary-lou
:thankyou: val good idea about darkening the hulls a bit more, will do that O0 by the way nice to be able to put a face to the name O0
-
Jenny...what a beautiful painting. Great job.
Maybe just extend a couple of poles above the bridge a little higher....from a distance, it looks like the bridge is a canopy over the the boats. I like it...would sure hang that up on my wall!!! :flowers:
-
:thankyou: retta, good point about the poles, why is it that when your painting, you don't see these things, then put it on here you still don't notice? will correct that as well. thank goodness for this forum :yippee:
-
O0 O0 O0 Oh! Jennylynn, You are just so good. I love the gondolas and the different take on the painting for it doesn't seem to be quite so busy. Lovely, lovely painting. Patricia
-
:thankyou: patricia you are too too kind! wanted to paint these gondolas again, at a slower pace lol. although I do love painting along with dennis :yippee:
-
Jennylynn, You are so prolific. I really like the very brilliant colors you chose for both paintings. Seems appropriate for Italy. Lovely.
-
have adjusted gondolas painting on val's and roxy's advice, looks much better. I think the perspective is much better now as regards the gondolas and the bridge :thankyou: roxy. and the hulls of the boats look much better now they are a deeper black :thankyou: val
:thankyou: lynn for your very kind words appreciate them O0
-
Terrific!!!  :flowers:
Excellent, Jenny. I love it. It's so lovely.
I'm looking forward to doing this one.
Gee, guess we'll have to start the w/c classes all over again for the next few weeks......OR.....take some wonderful pictures to paint!! :D
-
:heeha: There you go! Looks fantabulous :yippee:
-
Beautiful work, Jennylynn! I haven't been on the forum much to look for you and the others. And here you are, all doing water color painting! You do such nice work! The others, too! I don't have a steady hand to do water color. :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:
-
:thankyou: girls for your lovely comments, retta apologies, :thankyou: for your inpit as regards the poles, why did I put roxy? must have been having a senior moment lol :2funny:
-
Well done Jennylynn
-
why did I put Roxy?
Because I'm always on your mind?. . . . . . :2funny: :2funny: :2funny: >:D
-
could be :2funny: :2funny:
-
Wow everyone! I've looked through this thread a few times admiring all the paintings! Amazing how much variation in mood comes through from this subject. Looks like doing this lesson would sure kick up our painting skills a few notches :D Excellent job everyone - I'm impressed!!!
Happy painting .....
-
Your painting is less cluttered Jennylynn and the colours are clear and sharp. You are inspiring me to have another go - as soon as i find the pictures of Venice i took about three years ago. If you want to make any more changes - I notice the windows in the buildings have been multiplying. If you wanted to experiment you could wipe some of the furthest away ones with a damp tissue and shift them further away by almost disappearing them.
-
:thankyou: Karen for your lovely comments will fade windows good point :thankyou:
-
I missed the class! :'( It looks like you all had fun and your gondolas look terrific! :congrats: Everyone!
:offtopic: I enjoyed a weekend at the college learning knife painting, (oil), then had to switch gears for my last Monday morning class. It's been a great semester and I have some more credits in my cookie jar. :yippee:
I'm still recovering! :2funny: I'm enjoying the forum and loving what I see. :1hug: :1hug: :1hug: :1hug: 's to you all!
-
Off to the "construction site".. "She-who-must-be-obeyed " wants her kitchen done by friday and I just started tearing out the old cabnets late yesterday
Sniff, sniff. Is that the wonderful aroma of bacon I smell?? She-who-must-be-obeyed must be fryin' bacon in that brand new kitchen of hers, eh Brian? ;)
-
This was my last painting session with "Artisticat", we never got around to adding the people. I have a photo of him sitting on the desk intently watching Dennis during the lesson. For some reason it will not resize, will have to try a different program and post later.
The resulting painting...
I know, no people. Perhaps I'll finish one day. The water is actually more green, this is as close as I could get the colour.
-
val firstly so sorry about you losing artiscat,
your painting of the gondolas is great, no people so what! love it
-
Val. . . .words cannot adequately express my sympathy for your loss. I grieve with you, deeply and sincerely. :1hug:
Your gondola painting is lovely and one that will always hold fond memories for you. I think you should leave it as is, frame it and hang it in memory of that wonderful Artisticat.
-
Val-Thanks for that beautiful pic of Artisticat. I love your gondolas. Very beautiful complementary colors. I Agree. Just frame it as a keepsake for your joint effort and love for one another.
-
Aristocat's fur looks like velvet.. beautiful and classy cat!
I like the crisp clean look of your painting, Val.. nice colors..even if your water does not look green.. I like the blue. Everyone did a nice job... so many variations of the same subject. Looks like a fun one to do.
-
I'm so glad you posted this final portrait of our favorite mascot. And what a final effort it is. Beautiful. No people necessary!
-
So sorry for your loss :'( It is heart breaking and painfull when we loose our pet. Your gondolas are great. I love your different approach on colors. I hope I'll be able to show mine soon. I was in the hospital this week with a severe medication side effects :tickedoff: :tickedoff: I am well now and today I will paint. I missed painting this week. :o Doina
-
Sorry Val-I missed your posting about your cat. :-\
Painting is great! :)
-
I have a photo of him sitting on the desk intently watching Dennis during the lesson.
Val, maybe he was saying "goodbye" to Dennis in his own way since he knew how special Dennis is to you :smitten: . :1hug: What a precious picture of "Artisticat".
No people needed for your painting, it is beautiful as is.
-
Thank you one and all. Just noticed the lighter building's colour didn't turn out either. Very strange...the photo looked ok before I uploaded. ??? Gotta love these electronic wonders ;D
This was a fabulous lesson to do, learned lots of new little tricks and quirks. I'll probably do this one again. O0
-
Such a pretty kitty! Thank heavens we have photos to capture precious memories!
This can't be your painting, Val, I don't see a single cauliflower! :2funny:
Seriously, you've got the perfect painting here. Love it! :smitten:
-
well, I just finished my first version. I'll try another one later. The picture isn't good either. Doina

Doina, Batman... Good looking Gondolas!!!
-
I missed Doina's. Well done. And Batman--I swear you two have exactly the same water floating your boats. Pretty colorful. The details are well done Batman. This is a pretty intricate painting. I don't know for the life of me how Dennis gets all of us through successfully.
-

Batman.
That's because you were in Europe, they don't bother with bikinis there! :o
I'm actually amazed that you got any paint on the paper at all!!! :2funny: :2funny:
-
 Doina and Batman!
-
Beautiful gondolas, Doina and Batman! Makes me want to jump in and be serenaded!
Hugs,
Jani
-
I just loved this lesson and doing this painting. This was such fun, although I did get a bit lost doing the gondola interiors and the oars....but really enjoyed this one.
-
   Mary Lou, an excellent job on the gondolas ... that scene is just so you. Beautiful painting. Patricia
-
What's better than having fun doing a painting? Having fun and creating a wonderful painting!

Nice gondola scene. I'd go bug-eyed painting all those little windows.
aloha
mea
-
Very nice painting, Mary Lou
I'd go bug-eyed painting all those little windows.
You sure would have if we had painted every single window that was shown in the reference photo :faint:
-
Thank you Patricia, Judie, Mea and Dennis :flowers:
-
:heeha: Another lovely painting MaryLou? You'll be well passed me in the lessons at this rate! :run:
Nicely done.
-
Mary Lou, you are banging out these paintings, aren't you? Another fantastic painting!!
-
Mary Lou, I like the subtlety of color in this. Very professionally done :)
-
Thanks so much Val, Jani and Lynn. I had some catching up on my watercolor club as I neglected it for a couple of weeks. .....I had vacation and then company so I put this aside for a bit.
-
I must say I've been enjoying this painting trip to Venice! Things probably aren't as straight as they could have been, but they say Venice is sinking into the canal so any leaning one way or the other is a result of that! Any suggestions for improvement, please send them my way!
-
Great job Sharon, nice colourings, and look at all those people! I wasn't brave enough to tackle people back then ::) Really well done.
-
Great stuff, Sharon. You have caught the simplification of the background beautifully
-
   Sharon, I looked at your painting and just said "Wow" - my eyes literally came out on stalks for your painting is so vibrant and good. You are really excelling in your endeavours. Good for you!! Lovely to see. Patricia
-
Great job Sharon
-
Good colors for the background, but the boats are floating above the water. Unless we have a new form of hover-gondolas in the future, the shadows need to establish the place where the water meets the bottom of the boat. I think darkening it would help.
-
Very pretty painting Sharon. :smitten: It has a nice feel to it!
-
Thanks, everyone - I really appreciate the feedback and the lovely compliments.
-
Another great painting, Sharon!
-
Sharon you did a great job. O0 O0
Nina :flowers:

There are some great gondolas painting there everyone.
