Hi Dennis,
I am just wondering, why the picture we got for class seems to be backwards of the one shown online?

Also, do you always leave that much room around your watercolors?  Seems like a waste of very expensive paper, but I am new to this media, so not sure why.

Sue,

The instructions say you can enlarge the subject if you wish.  I have found that you can enlarge it to 150% and still use a 9" x 12" sheet.

Sue, I'll tell you the reason for the white border.
The sheet I use is 16" x 12" which is also a standard frame size.
I mark 60mm off on each side for the white border.
For the mat surround I cut the  board the  size of the watercolour paper (16" x12") I then cut the matboard to leave a 50mm surround.

The framing of the painting is so easy from now on, because when I add the mat to the frame and then the picture and then the backing board I don't have the  worry of trying the centralize the painting - everything fits perfectly - leaving me with a nice 10mm white strip between the picture and the mat board.

Normally to get this effect I would have had to us 2 matboards plus the trouble of trying the centralize the painting.

With this method I can swap one painting for another in minutes ;) It is also easy to swap frames as well.

Paint-a-long results:

Final painting:

I got rid of that waterfall and added the reflections.  I kept things that are out of the focal area a bit vague on purpose.

I have been looking at photos of these trees on the net....magnificent barely describes them. What a wonder it must be to see numbers of these grouped together. Perhaps one day I shall have the chance to see one.  :cloud9:

Now that I have managed to print the full template, I shall have another go at this.

:thankyou: Patricia. I got off to such a false start for the paintalong, what with missing half the template! Can't believe I missed that!    It was a bit rushed, but none the less I finally got the gumption to pull it out and see what could be done. It's far from properly finished but good enough for now. I learned a good few things from this so it wasn't a waste. Actually looking forward to getting on with the next one!

I like this peaceful scene.   I like the way you made the beach roll out to meet the water - looks so natural.  Same for the water slowly streaming in from the ocean.

Hi this is my first post, I have only dabbled in a little bit of painting, acrylic's but really wanted to give Watercolours a try.  I was really pleased to find this website, loved the Cosmos lesson (will post that when I have had another go).  I decided to skip to lesson 84 as the Pohutakawa season has finished in NZ.  Apologies for the quality of the photo.   :)

Welcome to PB,

I have never tried watercolor, so I cannot even begin to critique; however I do like the theme of the painting.  I especially like the pop of red against the lighter background.
