Hi folks, I finally decided to go out on a limb and submitted ten paintings to a local exhibition in our town. Five sold on opening night, so I was very pleased with that!

Thanks so much Dennis, that is very encouraging.
Thanks very much Danielle, Didwaud, Doina, Bamagal and Nolan.
Nolan and Dennis, why is it that the painting you have the least expectation for, is one of the first to sell? I find that odd.
-
Congratulations Neil, that is wonderful news. It doesnt surprise me tho, I think you are a really talented artist and I think you will always be able to sell your work. Well done, you must feel really proud. :yippee: :yippee:

Awesome job Neil!!!
-
Thanks so much for your kind word Sally and Natalie - much appreciated. :thankyou:
-
which one was that Neil?
The answer lies in what I am constantly telling everybody :
1) We underestimate the quality of our artworks
2) Artworks appeal to people for different reasons. It may be the style they like, it could be that the colours match the colour scheme in the room or even that they want to gift the artwork to somebody who likes the subject you have painted.
Often a sale depends on who walks through the door at the correct time.

:flowers: :flowers: :flowers:    WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU, NEIL! Question: were they all sold with frames?
-Liz
-
Thanks for answering my question Nolan, that makes sense.
Thanks so much Liz, all 10 works were framed, I just included the cost in the price of the painting. They were fairly decent quality. The exhibition runs for another two weeks, so we will see how it goes. I had some more good news, one of my entries won the 'sponsors choice' award. (It's only a small town though, so not that big a deal, but encouraging for me nonetheless)

Thanks very much for the encouragement folks, I really appreciate it. Sharon, I will post photos of the two paintings for you tomorrow, no problem.
-
Here you go Sharon, I have posted the two paintings as requested. The "Lone Heron" won the sponsor's award (Reference photo was taken by Fiana Gerzon (PMP), and the rusty old VW won the Peoples choice award - who would have thought, a rusty od car out in the middle of the bush and multiple people wanted to buy it. The reference was taken during wild flower season, so it did make quite a nice picture.
-
Neil,
Congratulations, both the heron and the rusty, old car paintings are great. Glad to see you doing so well.

Thanks so much Cyril, Val, Susan, Jill and Brian for your works of encouragement. Actually Brian, I was more surprised than anything else, but chuffed nonetheless. Thanks again :thankyou:
-
I just saw the winning paintings - they're both fabulous and it doesn't surprise me you had multiple offers to purchase them! What size are they? Can't wait to see what you submit for the next contest - you're always going to be a winner with your talent...
-
Thanks very much Sharon for the kind comment. The Heron was 80cm wide by 70cm high (without the frame on) and the VW was 70cm by 50cm.
-
Gosh a never learned the metric system! What's that in inches??
-
Sharon 1in=2.54cm
-
New to the forum, but your paintings are beautiful . What medium are you using?
-
Welcome to PB Kris and thanks for the compliment. I use acrylic, I have not ventured into oils yet.
-
Thanks for the math lesson, Doina!!
