Nolan that class was great.  I love that you showed us how to get the basic image on the paper.  You made it look so easy.  I'm looking forward to you getting the video on line.  there was so much information that I stopped drawing and just watched and enjoyed.   :thankyou:

Thanks, Nolan!  This is my unfinished drawing.  It was interesting learning how to do the composition, arrange it by the thirds, measuring how to place the rocks, etc.

Liz I believe that Nolan said that the rest of the drawing is done the same as what we had gone through in the class and that the next lesson he was going into the dynamics of the waves.  the class has been put up so if you want you can go back and check.

Natalie I'm sorry  :flowers: I missed commenting on your wonderful start on the picture.  great job!

Nolan thanks so much for the great class and for getting it posted in the lessons so quickly.

Thank you Dennis for commenting.  Thank you Mea, Pencil Point and Natalie for you encouraging comments.

The rocks on the left gave me a headache. All I could see was black and a white French poodle.  Now I too see my imaginary detail was a mans side view.  On the other hand when I loaded the better photo I see the second rock as a troll.  Mea, look carefully and you will see the eyes and mouth looking at you!!! :heeha:

Peggy,

What caught my eye immediately on this was too many pointy shapes, even on the tops of some of the waves.

If you round out a few, I think it will look smoother.

Otherwise, it's a good effort.

I do agree that some of the waves in the foreground are a tad high so they compete with the rocks, just smooth them out to become ripples O0

Lisa you did a great sea scape.  Nice splashes.

Louisa you also did very well. I would add some dark in the foreground rock,  that way your splashes would show more.  Watch the horizon, it should be straight.

Louisa,

Good work on this.

Somehow the water in the foreground looks more like snow.  The waves seem to be soft mounds.  Maybe with the darker color that Danielle suggested, it will look less snowy!

looks great, just darken the water in the foreground so that the water gradually becomes lighter to the back in order to get the atmospheric perspective correct O0

Here's my basic seascape. I had a lot of fun doing this lesson. Is it too dark?

Gosh! I don't know how I missed this lesson for I don't recall it at all and have just had a look through all the posts and there are lovely seascapes.  Steve, I personally don't think that yours is too dark. It is very well drawn.

Good job, Steve.

I personally find it hard to make realistic-looking splashes. Yours are pretty good.

not too dark at all, lovely movement in the water, well done Steve :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

Just erase some more detail into the cliffs on the left  O0

Hey Steve! Glad to see that you got your pencils out. :) I don't think it's too dark But I do think you could use some variation in the tones to give the rocks more dimension but I haven't seen the reference photo.

You have nice movement in the water. It does look like a fun class.  O0

As suggested, I added some details to the cliffs on the left side. I wanted to keep them understated as the cliffs in the reference photo were very dark. Maybe because of backlighting or because they are volcanic rock. Anyhow, please let me know what you think. :)

O0 You're doing really good with your drawings, Steve!  when I first drew and saw what could be done on a blank sheet of paper, it was like magic took place before my eyes!  I saw your amazing spoon and felt that magic again!  Nolan and Dennis are the best drawing teachers ever!

Thank you very much Nolan! I enjoyed this one very much. Now on to the breaking wave! Hope I don't get seasick. ;)

Louisa:  Nice drawing.  Love the rocks.  Just a little more darks in the foreground will make it pop.

Thanks, Kathy! The foreground is a bit darker than what shows (see original on previous page). Somehow I couldn't get the exposure right when I took the photo on the revision even though camera was on auto. Maybe I didn't have my OTT light on.

Steve:  Your seascape is great.  I like the contrast and value changes.

Sorry.  I did respond but I must have had a senior moment and did not post it.  Good drawing.

Kathy, I hear you. I, too, am getting more of those "senior moments" as time goes by! :2funny:
