I'm not finished...I'm like the white rabbit today-I'm running late!  This is what I've done so far-left bank is giving me fits.

Looking good so far, Natalie.  Great work on the arch and railing.

While I love the blue hue, is it too blue?

Lisa, another great bridge painting
More than often painting too slow is a hindrance. Why? It is an absolute recipe for FIDDLING :2funny:
Look how fast those who painted along with me during the live classes improved - no time to fiddle.
It also takes you away from just being a "copy artist" to being you, and nobody else.  O0

I did find my self watching you less and relying on what you have taught me to keep up.  But I have to tell you my workspace looked like a typhon had gone through, pencils flying through the air in search of the right colors  :2funny:
Thank you for another wonderful class.

 Lisa,

Your bridge painting is quite good.  Tree to the right and behind the bridge are really nice.

It looks like a challenging picture but both you and Natalie seemed to catch on quickly.

:thankyou:Mea for your kind comments.  I think that painting fast may have helped me make the marks for my trees more random.

:thankyou:Retta,  i agree you need a lot of steam.  I really don't know how Natalie does it each class.  I had to send my husband out to dinner with his mom so that I could get through it.  Can't wait to see yours!

Excellent painting, Fiona    I'm just missing the darks in your painting. You have them very nicely in your other paintings. This painting had too much of an even tone. Adding the darks, especially the area behind the bridge, will really make this one pop. Where you have the brightest light you also have the darkest shadow. All paintings should have the play of the light against the dark O0

Fiona your bridge is fabulous!  Here is mine.  Found the reflections and rocks etc on left to be a bit of a challenge.  However I thoroughly enjoyed painting this.  It's nice to be caught up with the pastel classes again.  I have so little time fir my art at the moment.  It really is very frustrating.

Those rocks on the left were a bit of a challenge for me as well. So glad you are enjoying your pastel work - it's a wonderful medium to work in, I love the immediacy of putting colour straight down and seeing what happens   ;D

I love this picture, and at night, with only the street lights coming in my windows, it glows! It is such a beautiful painting....thank you Dennis for choosing this for us.  Does this bridge have a name or location?

Great Bridge's by everyone!!!

Here is my Bridge! ... been a month or so since I did a pastel painting ... it felt good to play with them again!

I still don't have very many pastel pencils so I did my best with what I have so if I didn't have a close colour in the pencils I just broke my sticks and used them!

This was a lot of fun I really enjoyed this class! Thanks Dennis!

Judy,

This bridge painting is lovely - soft and tranquil.

The clump of grass in the foreground seems a bit too squarish - maybe round off the hard edges?

Otherwise, it is pleasant to look at.

Hi All,

First of all, I'd like to congrat you all for your lovely paintings of this mysterious bridge in Europe; it is a very peaceful scene. Anyhow, here is my rendition and I learnt a lot from it; I struggled with the pinkish color at times but found a similar one and added the white on top of it for highlights. Still not quite comfortable with my reflections on water though.

Please critics and comments well received.

Cheers

Juan,

Nice work on this.

I am mystified as to what the cone shaped thing is in front of the left side of the bridge.  I went back through all the Forum entries for this lesson and still cannot figure out what it is.

Guess I'll just have top watch the lesson myself.

Mea,

Thank you for your kind words.

I believe that cone thing is part of the foundation and they built it as a decoration in that side (probably on the other side too?), and it is also sticking out of the picture, as far as my perspective is concerned. It looked like one of those gothic constructions from the middle ages!!!

Well done, Juan Carlos.
The cone shape you see in the photograph is actually a beautifully rounded off buttress that stabilized the structure in the event of floods. There are 2 per side. The one on the right has been screened with the foliage.

See, that's what happens when you ask about bridges to an engineer and painter; you learn a lot in both fields. O0

Thanks a lot Dennis for a wonderful class and kind words.

My try on the Bridge... I'm struggling with pastels but learning a lot. The rock on the left hand side needs help badly... LOL I think I did okay on the bridge itself.

Good for you, Robynann.  Love the glassy reflection on the water.

I have tried pastels a few times, but just do not enjoy using them.

Hi Robynann, I really like the bridge too.  O0 Nice detail. I’ve not ventured into pastels yet but I love the results I’ve seen posted. One day!

You have done a great job on this drawing, well done

I would just add a few more contrasts into the rock - check the reference photo and you will see there are darker patches near the top caused by mould forming as the water has run down it. That will give you the interest you need there O0
