Oh boy, I wouldn't know if it was for a family member, I usually give them away when a family member wants a painting of mine.
But if it wasn't close family member, or a stranger, I would charge something in between $100- $150

After taxes have been taken off, it gives you a reasonable hourly, when you ask that price, but I don't know how taxes are in your country.

11 x 14 inches I guess? ;)

That's helpful Natalie and Germa - thanks! :) Germa, I know what you mean - I have given away oodles of paintings!! My immediate family I always give as gifts and such - this is the spouse of a cousin. :)

In that case I would ask the price I mentioned too.

$200-250 if it wasn't family - $175-200 if it is....

Yeah, once you've been in a gallery and have already a place in the art world.  ;)

No one would pay that price for a unknown artist in our region.

It's interesting - the first painting I sold 16 months ago was to a family friend for $150 - it was smaller than Tania's and not nearly as good.  Like me, she's not unknown to her family and friends - and those are the first folks we should market our art to....What I've learned is that when one person buys your art, whoever that is, it gives us credibility and makes it that much easier to sell the second one...and so on...And be sure to take a photo of the buyer and post on your FB page with a public thank you for them being your newest collector...it's all about creating a buzz...

But seriously, Tania - your painting is that good...

I'm sure you're right, in fact I think best thing you can do is charge prices that are 'common' in the region you're living in, over here prices for unknown artists aren't that high.
