:heeha: Cats! This tabby will be an excellent start.... then we'll need a Maine Coon.... and a Siamese!!! :yippee: Cat scratch fever has struck!!! :yippee:
-
Woohoo!!!YAY!!!! Cats rule forever :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:
This one's a beauty, then we need a Sand Cat and then a Rag Doll, and then . . . . . . . .
A brief history: In a grave in Cyprus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus), dating to 7500 BCE, during the Neolithic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neolithic) period, contains the skeleton of a human, buried ceremonially with stone tools, a lump of iron oxide, and a handful of seashells. In its own tiny grave 40 centimeters (18 inches) from the human grave was an eight-month-old cat, its body oriented in the same westward direction as the human skeleton. (Wikipedia)

Can't wait for this class!!!!! Thanks Nolan :thankyou:

My Part 1 of the cat drawing. Suggestions for improvement please. Loved this class!!!!!
:yippee: :yippee:
-
I somehow missed this class offering! Off to check out the drawing classes....
I volunteer in a cat shelter, how can I resist?
-
Sherri I think you lost control over your initial drawing. If you have any see through page protectors-use a fine tip black marker and trace the outline on that. You can then put that on your drawing to see where you can adjust the eyes.
I cheated a bit and used a carbon pencil and the Kimberly 9xx pencil for the darkest bits, but only after I got as dark as I could with my pencils.
-
Nice cat drawings, ladies.

mea
-
Natalie, I definitely lost control of the eyes. I used the see through page protector as you suggested, used my electric eraser and tried to fix the eyes of the cat!! What do you think? Look better. Thanks so much for the tip.
Sherri
Updated Part 1 drawing

Oh, yes, Sherri. Eyes are better.

  Well done, Sherri and Natalie, very well done indeed.. . . . . O0 O0 O0
Wouldn't you just know it. . . me, the one who was nagging Nolan to do this course and was looking sooo forward to being there. . . had to go in for emergency dental care...abscess on my new implant!!! Everyone was running around making phone calls to other doctors and what a circus! Arrgghh. . . . Anyway I am just fine today, no pain, no swelling, no problem, except I missed the class :'(
Oh well, I'll catch the replay! Meowsers everyone!!
-
Sheri I'm glad that worked. Beautiful recovery.
Bev you made my teeth ache hearing about it. Glad you are better.
-
step 1 looking great ladies :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

great looking cats ladies well done for part one O0
bev glad to hear that your feeling better looking forward to your drawing of the cat, when you feel like it of course :flowers:
-
   Great job so far ladies. I missed the class as I was away on vacation but will catch up with the replay.
Bev, I am so pleased that you are feeling better after the dental work and subsequent abscess. Gosh, it makes my legs go weak just reading about it. Anyway, we will "catch up" with the cat now that everything is back to normal.

I don't know that I have the perseverance to get my tonal ranges correct with all the stabbing. ;D
I'll revisit this again and test it. So for today... this is what I have:
-
Natalie,
This cat drawing looks great. You created such depth in the eyes.

My Part 2 submission of the cat drawing!! Suggestions for improvement please.
Loved this class. :-*
-
Natalie - your cat looks great. I agree lots of erasing and stabbing!!! Not sure if I got it totally correct either.
Sherri
-
Nice work! I like the sly grin.
Thanks Mea.
-
great job guys
Natalie, keep at it, you have the technique sorted, so just be patient
Sherri, what you want to do is get the dark contrasts on the left hand side of the page darker before continuing otherwise you will not be able to lift out any detail in that area
-
Thanks Nolan. I'll hunt up a good audio book. ;D
-
Will do Nolan
Thanks Sherri
-
nothing like some loud music Natalie ;D
-
Great lesson Nolan. It's time to quit tweaking this poor cat and post it.
-
I hope that it posts this time.

Nolan, care to drop any hints on how to draw a black cat  Felix is jet black with green eyes, how would I go about getting his facial features to show and still keep him looking black-black?
-
Thank you Natalie and Val for you lovely comments
-
Nice job on your cats, Stevie!
Val, when black cats have light on them the highlights look dark gray - you can use those highlights to show the facial features and body shapes on the black cat. :) my two cents worth! :)
-
Great job Nancy
just be careful when you vary the direction of your strokes to not vary them too much otherwise you can end up with a scruffy look. What you can still do to your drawing is darken the body underneath the bottom jaw to add more contrast there, that will lift the jaw away from the body. O0
Well done Steve
You cat is at step 2, what you need to do now is continue to stab more hairs in, concentrating on getting the contrasts correct, especially at the top of the head O0
-
I encountered a problem when doing the lesson because I had transferred the reference drawing using black graphite tracing paper which left my drawing with dotted lines all over which were hard to erase. I was mad with myself for not transferring it by pencilling the back of the sheet but I thought I could save time this way ... much to my detriment. Anyway, if anyone can learn from my mistakes, then I would be happy.
So here is my dotted cat:
All comments are welcomed. Patricia
-
Well Patricia, those dots seem to have blended right in with the cat's fur...so no worries there! :yippee:
Gorgeous rendition. Love those eyes and the fur texture looks 'spot' on! :2funny: (couldn't resist)
-
Nice work Patricia. I dont see any dots.
-
Patricia,
Your cat looks good to me - undotted to my eyes.

you can still darken at the top of the head to show it is curving away from you in that area O0
-
:thankyou: Nolan, I will go back in and darken the top of the head. Patricia
-

I have a question about the eraser. I ordered one from Amazon but realized they had 2tips.. One was round and the other rectangle. I ordered the round tip but as I progressed through the class I think I made a mistake. Can someone clarify that for me please?
Thank you so much.
Kris
-
Per usual I did not make it dark enough to see all the hairs that I created as part of the second lesson. Oh well it still looks like a kitty.
Kris

Lovely, kitty, Kris. Great depth in the eyes. Yup, go darker.

Maria,
Oh, the fur is so soft looking. Great whiskers. Cute nose.
The pupil in the cat's left eye does not look right. Not sure why, or how to make it look right. Hope someone more experienced can give you advice.
Otherwise, so adorable! Lucky cat to be living with you.

This was a real challenge & learning to use the Tom Bow eraser was interesting - I really went to town with it, & then some more trying to get this cat to come to life & playing with doing the whiskers, He certainly is a scruffy moggy :-\
It was a great lesson, thanks Nolan I learnt a lot & am love using cloth to lay down a base
-
Fantastic drawing Trace.

Trace…you have real talent…beautiful!! Of course, I’m partial to cats…I have 5 who are all strays & a pitbull who was a rescue. I just love your drawings!!
-
Aaw so sweet thanks Lynne, you are so going to love doing the cat & the dogs was really awesome to do also. I love patting animals, so when I am drawing them I try and hold the feeling of when I'm stroking them :) - I really look forward to seeing your furry ones drawings in the near future :)
