Wow Nolan that is awsome and so real looking.    :yippee:   I just might just have to try acrylic.   So tempting.

Help - Looks like I have managed to get my "ducks in a row"!!!!

What do I need to do to fix this problem.  Thought I would make two pathways to the beach but it sorta backfired on me!!  How do I fix it!!

the big problem is the symmetry Sherri. If you are going to add two paths, then they need to be at different angles. The same with the grass, each plant would be a different size, grow at a bit of a different angle, have more then less spaces between each other and so on.

I other words you need to get things looking more random in your painting.

Thanks - going to work on it and see if I can fix it.  If not this one might be a learning lesson and I will start over!!  Woe is me did I ever screw this one up.  I think that I am going downhill instead of getting better!!

Sherri  :sneaky: you are not going down hill, you just tried to do a different one from Nolan.  you just have to remember not to do repetition and symetry.  your technique is great.

Do not say you are going down hill Sherri, it happens to all of us.

absolutely not downhill at all, you made a classic mistake, we all do it all the time including myself and Dennis.

Thanks for all of the encouragement.  I have been doubting myself lately but I decided I needed to get back in the saddle and try to fix this one.  I covered the bottom of the canvas with gesso and tried again and did not back off of two paths!!  I feel much better now.  Still not sure if I got everything just right.  Comments and suggestions for improvement please!!

See Sherri I new you could do it.   This  is much better.  just add a few longer pieces of grass  here and there just to uneaven the bushes.

There you go Sherri, hope this last painting has erase all doubt you may have.  Your dunes are very nice.  I wish I could put my bare feet in your dune  :flowers:

I think you should be congratulated for attempting to modify the original lesson, and not be a copy-cat.  After you have learn the basic techniques, the next step is to be creative isn't?   I cannot wait to get there myself.

Bravo

Nolan,

You pushed me out of my comfort zone by telling us in the lesson to make this our own!!  Glad I continued down my original path.  Thanks for the confidence.  I re-watched the lesson several times.  Bet I don't forget how to do the sea or dunes!!!

Danielle,  Thanks for your encouragement.  You are such a great artist and a big inspiration!!

Thanks Val and Annie - Appreciate the kind words!!

Now on to the next lesson.

Nice work, Danielle

Shouldn't the water be darker in the front and lighter toward the horizon?

This strikes me as the water up close to the beach is quite shallow giving the lighter colour, possibly a deep drop off accounting for the darker water in the distance.

Very nicely done Danielle.  O0

What actually happens is that the light rays penetrate the deep water and have nothing to cause it to be reflected upwards again. However, in the shallower water the rays reflect the colour upwards from the ground surface. Because of the slope of the beach, the farther out, the less light is reflected and so appears darker and darker. Hope this helps. O0

Sarlota

Nice work.  Love the way you made the sand look so real.  Great blending.  Good footprints.  Nice separation of the dune from the beach below.

Good depth in the grass clumps.

It may be just the photo, but it looks like your horizon line is lower on the right side.

Pat yourself on the back!

Thanks, Mea, for your comments.  :)
It's the photo that makes the horizon line slope down. And the dune with bunches of grass seem a bit darker than in reality.
It was a nice lesson.

beautiful job Sarlota, you have executed the techniques perfectly :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

Just something to look out for next time - the colours in the foreground are quite dull which makes the foreground sand and grasses look like they are in shadow. This isn't a problem, but just remember for future if you want the front to look like it is in sunlight you will need to use more vibrant highlight colours O0

Thank you Teresa and Nolan.

I painted the beach during a sunny day and at that time, the sand looked brighter. But when I finished the painting and took it to another room, I saw that it was not the best colour I chose, but I couldnt do anything to change it, as it was finished with all those grasses and shadows. :(
