A friend took this photo of a bridge located nearby - as they say, I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew! From the photo I thought this would be easy, but it's definitely not...please send any comments to help me improve on this...haven't decided it it will be in my Destinations show or not since I don't know if I like it or not! Thanks!
-
Lovely
Your reflections need to be darker.
-
Thanks Natalie. I can work on that tomorrow!
-
Sharon,
I flipped back and forth between your painting and the reference photo and can hardly see any difference, except maybe the left side bushes are darker.
Great job.

Nice work Sharon :)

Nice work Sharron, i agree with Natalie for the reflections. Remember the lighter the object the darker the reflection, the darker the object the lighter the reflection. One more little thing , on the left hand side the post reflection are past (higher) the dark bar. Hope this helps
-
Sharon--I am always impressed by how you challenge yourself and succeed. I agree, this is hard to paint. I think that when the bridge reflection is darker and doesn't show the light places, you will be happy. Great job
-
Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone...and I didn't know that about reflections, Danielle - that lighter colors are darker and darker colors are lighter when they're reflections. I obviously didn't paint every bush exactly as the original photo...so I'll use what plants I painted as my references...stay tuned!
-
Sharon, you might want to addres the angle of the reflected bridge, you have it going straight across, the reference photo shows a definite angle, giving it the perception of depth, hope this helps.
-
You guys are so good, when I looked at the painting I did not see anything wrong, to me it looked fantastic. Well done Sharon, I wont be able to give advice but can appreciate something so beautiful.
-
Sharon - you sure can make watercolors work for you!!!! This is absolutely gorgeous!!
Sherri
-
OK - i've darkened the bridge, added some more black underneath to give the right side more of an angle (great idea Robin), and darkened some of the plant reflections in the water...
Louisa & Sherri - what lovely compliments - thank you! And Lynn - you're so right about always challenging myself. I don't set out to, than in the midst of it I start to panic that I've reached too high, than with feedback from my PB friends I'm always glad I tried these more challenging pieces regardless of how they turn out...
Please let me know if there's more I should do...thanks!

Awesome!!!! It is perfect now!!!! Sherri

Oh, yes, Sharon. This will definitely have to be part of the DESTINATIONS series!

Sherri and Mea - thank you so much! I was feeling really insecure about this. So glad I didn't give up. And yes Mea, it will be in the show! Unframed it's 21x24. One of my largest!
-
Great detail Sharon, I really like this one!
-
Sharon, those changes really made a difference. You were so close anyway. Glad you didn't give up!!!!!!!
-
Well done Sharron, Congrat it is beautiful. If you do not mind my saying one more thing, it is the ciment post reflection in the center you should add just a bit of a darker tone as it still appears to bright.
-
So great Sharon! The change in reflections make a beautiful difference - now there's more of a contrast between the water and land/bridge. Will give nice variety to your "Destinations" series 8)
-
Great Details Sharon!
-
Thanks my friends!! And I'll darken the cement a bit before I take it to the framers Danielle. So happy I kept plugging away at this one!
-
Hi Sharon I love your painting great courage to take on so many reflections, the only thing I spotted between the picture and painting, was slightly overdoing the wave effect on some of the reflections of the bridge. Keep going great inspiration.

Thanks Mark. I'll take a look at those reflections when I darken the cement!

I'll be sure to take a photo of the cover when I receive it and will post it here. Thanks again for everyone's help in creating this painting - it was truly a group effort!

   Sharon, the painting is just excellent and like Louisa wrote, I too, didn't see a thing wrong. Thank heavens for trained and experienced eyes. I also never knew about reflections being the darker the subject the lighter the reflections etc so thanks to Danielle for that bit of information. Congratulations too on your painting being featured on the magazine cover. What an honour. Good job.
