Title: Not a Cloud
Post by: Val on September 17, 2011, 09:28:30 PM
This started out as a much different painting. I was not at all pleased with a cloud on the left hand side, kind of looked like a mountain....ended up with a mountain range! Still haven't decided what to do with this but it needs something...
Open to suggestions  :help:
Unlike the tulips, this was painted with my old paints...quite a difference huh?

  Val what a lovely painting!. Good detail in the mountain.  Maybe all it needs is a focal point on the right hand side? I know the masters will come up with a good suggestion. Well done.  :yippee:

Val this is lovely, the mountains are very nice particularly the distant one created a lot of depth in the painting. My suggestion would be to go darker and warmer with the foliage in front and cooler and lighter as it recedes toward mountain. My eye goes right to the dark band at the base of the mountain.

Other than that it's lovely.

Very nice composition too.

Thankyou Ella and Anya (sounds like a rock band)  :2funny: The foliage in front is actually left from the original painting I started...since I hadn't decided what to do in front I left it there. Now that its been there a while, I think I've grown accustomed to it!  :-\  It does need something on the righthand side, I thought perhaps a tree forward and half off the page. Will sketch out a few variations and see what comes out. Next time I paint clouds I'll just wash it out if I don't like it....but it really did look like a mountain top! Cloud shadows can be quite tricky......

Yes, yes, Val! That is what I wanted to learn the most was how to make a sky with beautiful fluffy clouds in it. I jumped over to YouTube and watched every bodies method of doing it and found Tim Gagnon's to work the best for me and painted that horrid cloud painting I posted BUT, those puffy clouds did come out the way I wanted them to.
That painting was just an exercise in cloud practice.
Bob Ross' way works as well.
I watched some interesting watercolor techniques, too.

It looks good to me Val. It has a desert feel to it alot. It's like Dennis once told me that others see your paintings alot different than you might. I honestly like it alot.

I love this painting too Val  No problem with the mountains or clouds. I would add a focal point in on the right hand side O0
