Thank you very much for this class! I just picked up my first paint brush a few months ago at a wine/painting class and thought I'd try one on my own. Your Teddy Bear is my first painting - I had fun doing it. I'm looking over the class offerings now for my next attempt. Critique is welcome! Gotta start somewhere :-).

:welcome: to our PB family Labsimmons. You are a natural, to think that you have only recently picked up a brush and painted such a superb teddy which is excellently done, is phenomenal. I can just imagine what work you are going to put out after a couple more lessons. Well, as you can gather, we have the finest tutors in Dennis and Nolan and a great bunch of members who are always ready to give kind, constructive help and advice when needed. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Mea and Patricia - Thank you both for the encouraging words! I really did get in a zone when painting the bear. Just kind of a relaxing trance. I have so much to learn and understand, but I'm going to enjoy this journey. I'm scoping out what to do next now. I have a landscape photograph that I want to eventually paint (Prince Edward Island), but it has everything in it, and I need to learn how to paint the different subjects - sky, river, trees, broken bridge, ducks, farmhouses, and more...
-
Awesome job on the teddy bear!! :yippee: and welcome to Paint Basket. You have definitely come to the right place to learn about painting the sky, rivers, trees etc :)
-
Beautiful teddy nicely done Labsimmons and welcome to PB :yippee: :yippee:

I have done my own version of the teddybear, i made him from my head so hopefully the tonal values are good. Please let me know if it need tweeking. ps I also made it in oil. .

-
beautiful job with the teddy Lab, you should be pretty proud of this one
same with yours Danielle, excellent job figuring out the shadings from painting an imaginary teddy bear - it tells me you understand how the light affect an object which is one of the most important, and difficult, lessons to learn :congrats:
-
:thankyou: so much for your lovely comments Sue Patricia, Lisa and Nolan.
That is an encourager Nolan thank you. It is because you are a great teacher.

Hi Nolan
I have watched the teddy tutorial before starting anything. I need help with one of the colours you used for mixing the paints, as i am not sure what you used. At one stage you were going to use Nathpol Crimson but you changed your mind and used Permanent something it sounded like you said Lutheran but i can't find this colour. It was a darker colour to crimson. Can you let me know the colours as there was no list of colours with this tutorial. Thanks
Happy New Year

Tezza,
I don't think Nolan will mind my answering for him on this so that you can get back to work on it in case he is to busy partying for the New Year.
He said "Permanent Alizarin" (Crimson). There is a really good discussion of the difference between the regular alizarin crimson and the permanent one athttp://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364048] http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364048 (http://[url)
Nolan will give me two demerits if I gave the wrong info.
Look forward to seeing your Teddy. Would make a great baby gift.

Thank you Mea this will help me when buying paints.
You must be very intuitive because i was thinking if it turns out ok that i would give it to my daughter who told us a few weeks ago that she will be having a baby girl in 2016.
-
Great, Tessa. The Teddy will make a great first piece of art for the new baby. Congratulations.

:thankyou: Everyone i did this back in January but i found it hard work. It was a very big learning curve as i found I didn't mix enough of the colours and had to try to re-mix after the colour dried on my palette as it took several days.
Lousia i absolutely love the colours you used and how you painted it. It makes the fur look so soft and i just want to pick it up and cuddle it .

WOW ... so good, it all looks great to me.

I want to throw myself from a high place. :hang: There is a group called United Artists Club on facebook. (There are many of Turkish Artists. from beginer to master) I sent my Oscar this group. They had a big exhibition last week. And they sent an e-mail saying they wanted to exhibite my painting Oscar. But.. but.. but... its went to spam file. and I just saw the message :faint: :banghead: :banghead: The exhibition is over :pullhair: :injured:
The result is...spam is not spam.
-
oh no :pullhair: :pullhair: :pullhair:
That is why I don't use my spam filter. I sort through all the emails I get, spam and all to ensure I don't miss anything important. It takes more time, but ensures I have less unhappy customers because of missed emails.
-
:heeha: :pullhair: :banghead: Oh dear, Belma!
Nolan is right - always go through everything.
But it is still good to know they wanted to exhibit your painting. :gl: next time.
