This thread seems to be slow to kick off but Ryan is really enjoying himself  ;D thought I'd post a picture of his progress - he's taking his time as usual but as school holidays have started I can't complain  :heeha:

Brilliant beginning Ryan.  O0   Taking your time and building slowly will give you an awesome car in the end. Your values are coming along nicely.  O0

This has taken a loooong time and now Ryan has noticed it has a flat tyre 8) Still not totally finished as he is working on the shadow.... I know he used a different technique on the grill and he added the emblem on the badge  >:D

Jumped the gun - he was keen to complete it today so this is his finished Ferrari

Beautiful Ryan, she's just gleaming!  O0 If you give her another layer to bring up the darker bits she'll just leap off that page! What do you think?

:heeha: Can you feel the vibration of the engine? We need to show off her shine...... Let's take her for a spin! Varrooooooom!!!!

I actually forgot to add the badge detail during the class - only realised afterwards

Thanks for the comments, Ryan's happy   :)

He's a bit worried about touching it up with darker shading, or even smoothing it, because he might spoil something. Think he'll just have to drive off in this one as a first attempt and do another when he has the time !

 :thankyou:

Here is my submission for the car. I struggled with the wheels but still enjoyed the lesson.  Thank you Nolan. Comments and critiques are gratefully received.   Patricia

:heeha: Woohoo Patricia!!! Excellent job, and look at that emblem! You must have a magnifier bigger than mine!  :detective:    ;D

Gorgeous! I'll take one and I don't even care what colour it is!  :yippee:

:thankyou: :thankyou:  Val and Mea for your lovely comments.  Val, I too would take one except that getting out of a low car as you age is becoming quite difficult, I would need a crane fixed to the roof to help me out.  :2funny: Strangely enough, I didn't use my magnifying glass this time, my eyesight must be improving.

beautiful Patricia :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

I feel the highlights are a tad dark though, if you lighten them up again you will increase the contrast and make the car look even more shiny O0

:thankyou:  Nolan, for your comments and suggestions which I shall do.

Nolan, I have just had a look at the original drawing I did and it is actually so much lighter than in the photograph.

Here's my effort - haven't done the shadow under the car yet... but was late and I needed some bed!

I did 'struggle' with the detail (or 'lack of detail... just showing hints') inside the car...it all looks very flat to me, and I went quite dark...

 :(

    A good job Adrian, however, it is a bit too light, which could be the fault of your camera but if not, you need to darken your drawing in order to show the hi lights better which will also then make your car "pop". Wasn't as easy as it looks but then nothing is.     Patricia

It is a bit darker than it looks... this was the scanner mode I used I think (I normally just use the camera on my phone in natural light - seems to give a pretty accurate representation).

I probably will need to darken it more as well (shadow under the car needs doing anyway)... but not sure how to 'add the perception of detail' inside...

As for time... this took ages! - must be at least 4 hours so far!

Adrian,

Coming along nicely.  Agree that a darkening would really make it shine.

I suspect your contrasts are fine, it is just the scanner that washed out the contrasts - let's see what it looks like with the next scan and the shadow in. You are doing a great job so far Adrian

Here is the next version, added the shadow under the car, and also added a bit more value on the bodywork.
Took photo with camera again rather than the scanner.

Adrian,

Much better.  It looks so much darker when I pull away from the screen.

Thanks... I don't like the building reflection on the bonnet (hood). May give it another go sometime...

Oh, yes, Adrian, I see what you mean about the reflections.

Look more like people standing near the car to admire it.  The short person would be me!!!

Great job Adrian
if the reflections look like people, or something else it doesn't matter - leaves it up to the viewer's imagination O0

Looking at the image again now, I think the problem with those shadows is that they do not extend onto the bumper/fender at the front of the car. That part is 'constant tonal value' and should be darker where the shadow is.
