Wow, this is gorgeous, Nolan.

I like the way the dark background sets it off.

My first attempt at following a class in Arylic was the strawberry, this is my second attempt, I did it on watercolour paper and not canvas so was unable to get the background right and the blending did not go to plan, actually a lot didnt go to plan. :P

I have used acrylics for painting many times before but normally only smaller detailed work, so this was a challange.

:painting: I think it is very pretty, Win. I don't know what it was supposed to look like for the lesson but your finished painting is lovely, bright and colorful.

Win,

The flower itself is well done.  Agree that the paper did not lend itself to a smoothly blended background.  But, the textured look of it is not all that bad really.

This was a challenge for getting the type of blending I wanted.  Anyone tried this flower in oils?

Ginger,

Great job on the strelitzia.

Yes, I did it in oil and loved it.  One of my best.

I struggled with this in acrylic. I was wondering about using a retarder that slows the drying time. I may try this in the future but will have to mix my colors first then add the product as it seems to change the color until it dries. This is something I have to play with for now.

Perfect :congrats:

I love the white space on the canvas. Maybe you could add a bee on the top right hand third?

:thankyou: Nolan - yea I can surely brave that! Yea you are right, too much space around the flower, another tiny non competing companion would be nice  :)

 :thankyou: Mary Lou

I don't think there is too much white space. I like the white space, it gives the painting an airy feel O0

Hi, here is my Strelitzia.

I think the background colour is a bit too close to the colour of the flower, but for the rest it went pretty smooth.

Your Strelitzia looks great Dirk, well done :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

You can always darker the background some more if you want. Even adding some dark green to pure black will work O0

That looks great Bob. Love the colours

What I would like to see is the darker tonal value along the bottom length of the flower as that rounds that area off O0

Thanks everyone for your feedback and comments.  I tried to darken up the bottom like Nolan said.  I used a dry wash like in the tulip video.

Absolutely beautiful Bob. Your background makes the flower stand out perfectly as though there is actual distance between the two :congrats:
