Title: Leopard at waterhole
Post by: dennis on December 16, 2015, 01:38:20 AM
My latest Acrylic Painting. 20" x 30" gallery canvas. From a photograph taken by one of my students, Anne Evans, who recently visited Sabi-Sabi Game Reserve in South Africa.

Built up using the glazing technique. The Leopard has about 7 layers of glazing.

+Thanks for the compliment, Sharon
I don't often get time to paint for myself. This one is hanging in our lounge as a reminder of the times when we used to spend most of our holidays in or nearby Game Reserves.

A wonderful reminder of what we have seen and experienced in our younger days, so close to nature and such an appreciation of it. We are very privileged to have those memories which we shall never forget.

   Did it get a passing grade from Nolan? Did you use the color buster properly?  :yippee:

In my unqualified opinion it looks pretty good to me. I just want to see it framed.

I understand your comment about not often painting for yourself - I'm the same way. But now you're inspiring me to create something just for me!!

Dennis,

Was the initial painting of the Leopard in black and white and then all your color was glazed in?

Paula, the photo was in full colour, but I changed the background colour to bring out the leopard. I painted all the spots and dark nose area first and then started the glazing. I didn't use the grisaille method here.

I am not qualify to judge this amazing painting from a Master Artist... but boy do I love it!

Even with a magic brush I won't come near... but I would like to put down my name for one. I could use all the extra help available.

Now this is a super whooa painting!

Dennis, I have to learn this technique!  I can hardly imagine the patience to do so many layers.  Does it take long for each layer to dry?

The choice of colours is phenomenal.  I hope you are as pleased with this as we all are.  Banner job sir.  :congrats:

Kelly, it was done in acrylics. Each layer was just a hairdryer away. ;)

Clever and  8) .  I reread your previous post.  I wouldn't have imagined those colours in acrylic.  I'm going to have to rethink using the paints I was about to toss.

Dennis-This is glorious, not only the beautiful leopard but those great oranges and blues.  Wow and double wow about the rocks.  Love how you brought some blue into the rocks.  Great harmony!
