Title: Mixed Media Portrait Canvas Commission
Post by: SignLadyJ on December 21, 2015, 07:41:18 PM

Here is a commission job I got for the holidays. One of my graphics biz customers wanted a photo on canvas and I showed he my steam punk work. She hired me to make a special canvas for her to give her relative, Patty, who turns 80 over Christmas. This lady is all about music. Most everything I used has some connection to her.

I also learned how to print images on tissue paper using my inkjet! I love learning new techniques!

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Jeannie

The people who commissioned me to make this piece picked it up yesterday. It was the first time I have experienced such an emotional response from my art work. The husband was so emotional and thankful. It is for his mother who turns 80 this Christmas. It has lifted my spirits so much. Art is not just something pretty hanging on the wall. ;-)

Sounds like the perfect ending to a lovely story.

THANKS everyone!

Just after Christmas I got an email from Patty, the lady in the piece. She LOVED it!

:-)

Working on a mixed media portrait of my son. Had to put it on the back burner over the holidays to get other work done. Now back to working on it. Should have it done soon. Will post as soon as it is done.

That's great, Jeannie.  I was pretty certain that Patty would love that piece.

You did a great job.

glad she loved it, though I don't think there was any doubt that she wouldn't O0

Looking forward to seeing the next one...

:heeha: Well done Jeannie! How did you get the print to work on tissue paper?    I remember trying something like that a while back and it just bled all through the paper!    What's the trick? Inquiring minds want to know!  ::)    ;D

Val, I cannot take full credit for this. I found a gal who did it on Youtube. The trick is to make sure the shiny side of the tissue paper is facing the copier paper when you tape it on. Here is a link to the vid that shows you how. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzKJJTiP-pU&list=PLB2AF0BC7783C4C7C&index=119 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzKJJTiP-pU&list=PLB2AF0BC7783C4C7C&index=119) You do need to be careful and patient when doing it. Make sure there is no little pieces sticking up on the back. I use a lot of tape. I hold my breath every time. But so far so good! No jams.

Jeannie,

Thanks for sharing this.  I'd love to try it but I have a really cheap Inkjet that would probably eat the tissue for breakfast.

Hmmm...maybe a reason to get a new printer!

Mea,

I have a Epson Workforce 60 inkjet.

It would not hurt to give it a try on your printer. If you can run card stock through it, this should work. Regular copy paper with tissue paper taped to it should not be any thicker then card stock. I remove all other paper from the tray and run only the one thing at a time when I do this tissue paper process, just to be safe.

If not...a new printer can be very nice. ;-)

Thanks, Jeannie.

Is it harder to find ink for one that is not an HP?

I'll check out your suggestion.

Mea,

I have found Amazon has most ink brands and for a better price then Staples.

I can only tell you for sure about Epsons as that is all I have ever owned. Because of my graphics biz and some of the things I do with my printer I always get OEM Ink for Epson, not discount brands. That way I am always sure of pigments and end colors. All of the Epsons I have owned have been very frugal with ink. I home school my son and print a lot of papers for him. ;-)

Thanks, Jeannie.  I appreciate that information.  I will surely give Epson a look if I decide to buy.
