Title: Susan's Colored Pencil
Post by: BeaSue on January 07, 2016, 10:10:21 PM
My first colored pencil painting. Whew! This took a long time--many layers & much burnishing. After getting comfortable with watercolors, I am really at the bottom of the learning curve here.

9" x 6" Prismacolor on Strathmore Toned Gray 400 Series

Wel Sue you did a great job on the kiwi,  they look delicious, and real looking.    :yippee:
I was tempted to buy a new set of coloured pencil myself to do some colour drawing but I will wait for sale as the ones I want are the faber castle polychrome.

WOW!!  Susan, this is really stunning.  Even the fizz on the kiki skin looks good.  I marvel at how you were able to make such thin slices!

I'm in awe!

Thanks so much for the encouragement, ladies! I think it will take me a while--and I'm not giving up on watercolors (my first love)--but it is fun to tackle a brand new medium.

This is excellent Susan and looks like a watercolor painting! A kiwi is my next WC project so you've set the bar very high for me!

My thoughts exactly Christina!.....Susan you have done really really well!
I took to colour pencil...because I love to draw and it would be easy transition and you don't need so much equipment...but I soon realized you need a lot of patience!!!
Once you know your way around CP it can be very relaxing ...but it takes a lot more hours ..!
I totally understand Nolans hestitance to do a class! :)

:thankyou: very much, Christina, Jill and Zayne. Since I am retired and am painting for pleasure, not profit, I am fortunate I can take the time to do some CP paintings. It is very enjoyable.

You are right Susan...it is very relaxing and enjoyable. In no way I wanted to sound discouraging...wish I had more patience...as I am super slow to begin with with any medium.....so can u imagine..CP!.lol!

It took me more three weeks to do A4 size strawberry ! ::) :)

Zayn, I did not take your comment as discouraging at all. I am also a slow worker, so I can well understand that 3-week strawberry!

Thanks for the tip, Nolan. Will do.

So today I tried to do a CP painting of copper pots hanging  on a kitchen wall. The viewer sees the bottom of the pots. Mine turned out looking like an anchovy pizza!   :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny:

Time to do some simple practice exercises.
