Very Low Contrast Areas

Nolan, when you have very very little contrast like the white petals or even the central yellow of the flower area, what do you do? To get lights like that i guess you have to add darks, but I wouldn't want it to have a blocky look are overall too dark. I'm finished with this painting, but just curious as to this kind of problem. I put in similar values as what I saw but the individual yellow pieces don't stand out.

in this case they are different underlying colours so you would add the correct colour to white

You can see i did that in my painting, but in order to get the yellows to show up well, it seems i'd have to make it much dark than in the photo (the underlying darks). Same with the shadings of the almost pure white petals. This would make the overall appearance pretty dark looking.
