Am getting quite fond of line and wash. Here's Diamond Head Lighthouse with a gouache wash.  This is actually a 4 x 6" postcard (Strathmore).

I just put it on Facebook (my friends and family page, not my art page) and the first person to LIKE it will get it mailed to him or her.

Thanks, Val.  It might look even better once your swollen face goes down.  Hope you are improving.

Thanks, Mary Lou. Always appreciate your response.

Thanks, FOTO, I will check out Hopper's work.

I got inspired to do lighthouses from Dennis's line and wash of a lighthouse.

Thanks Mea, almost all swelling gone.... but seem a bit deaf in that ear! Go figure

Just noticed my comment isn't there with the clapping hands... how odd! Well, I'll say it again then, you and I both are in love with lighthouses. Me for more reasons than most  ;)      :boat: .   Lovely job on the glass around the lens.

:flowers: :flowers: :flowers: I love this!  I love lighthouses, too and have collected a whole bunch on Pinterest.  But haven't really painted one yet.  :(  I will one day. . .  You're getting real good at pen and ink washes.  Lately I'm drawing again with graphite pencils. . .  I actually want to paint Big Island Kilauea eruption to get me out of artist block! ~ Liz

Liz,

Thanks.  Line and wash is perfect for lighthouses.

I did a volcano painting in oil but it did not come out very well.  I may try to repaint it some day.

The owl is awesome!  My favorite one is the straight ink with no color added yet.  I love it!

Thanks, Jess.  If I can do it, you can too.  You are off to such a terrific start.

Mea... have been following your progress... love the lighthouse particularly. I like the fact that it's a real lighthouse, not a romanticized fantasy lighthouse. (I'm a former boatee, like Val still is). And the Owl.  Have been telling myself to try smaller paintings and sketches, but somehow I don't seem to be able to do anything smaller than A4 (std photocopier paper size) and more usually launch into A3 (double A4) or larger. But they take so long to finish... I'm Still working on the same Einstein portrait I started back in May... Mind you that's probably lack of experience ... I should take some portrait lessons and then I might make progress... At the moment his face changes colour each day.. orange, green, purple, at the moment the skin tone is perfect... if he was Gandhi... But I digress... Reading your posts, and Liz's, makes me think I should quit fooling around on this computer, and start doing some vignettes (Is that the correct term?)

Thank you, Linley.  I am enjoying line and wash much more than I thought I would.  I was terrified to use ink when I first saw Paintbasket offer it.

Yes, for me (and Liz), small works well.

I enjoy your sense of humor - that Einstein/Gandhi face color story being a perfect example.

So happy you found us on Paintbasket.
