Thank you Dennis this was a great lesson. I used your idea for the grass and modified a brush, loved how it worked. I did not have a sponge so did the trees with some cloth. This is done on arches 140lb hot pressed and I do not like using this type of paper, I much prefer the cold pressed. Here is my result:

Excellent, Mary Lou
The sun is from the left so try and lift some color out of the left wall of the building to show the contrast between the light of the left wall against the shadow of the back wall. If you can, then this will improve your painting even more

Nice job on this. I especially like the sense of depth inside the building. Really good perspective there.

Thank you Dennis and Mea. I will lighten it Dennis, I did notice it looked close in value when I photographed it.
Here it is ..I tried to lift out but the paint I used was quite staining, so I also darkened the other side of the cottage:

Nice job, Mary Lou!
I'm working on this one myself. I need to step away from it for a couple of days, but hope to have it done this weekend. I hope it is half as good as yours.

I think you've done a terrific job on this, Mary Lou! I sometimes struggle lifting color out as well, so clever to darken the right side of the building!

Here's my go at the cottage. I had fun doing this. I'm not too happy with the clouds, but overall I like it.
