The Baja Ocotillo is indigenous to southern California.  Gorgeous after a rainstorm.  I'll post some of Sahuaro (Saguaro) cacti soon.

These flower are really beautiful. I grew up partly in the semi-desert in South Africa. Where other people found it very drab I took the time to study and know it well. Even now I still enjoy the desert. When I work in Israel over 20 years ago I spent a lot of time exploring the various deserts south of Beersheba.

The geography of Israel is very, very similar to southern California.  We even have a Salton Sea.  There is a plant called the crown-of-thorns that only grows here and in Israel in the wild.  It is my ultimate goal to go to Israel some day.  I would love to see the flora :flowers: and fauna, and incredible artifacts.

Israel truly is an awesome place to visit, just a pity it's so dangerous. I was lucky enough to also get to visit there when Dennis worked there. Although I was only 12 or 13 at the time, I still recall that holiday like it was yesterday.

Floating on the Dead Sea was a very weird experience, can you do the same in your Salton Sea?

Yes, but you certainly wouldn't want to  :envy: It has become so polluted.
