Each year, our local museum has an event called "Big Names, Small Art." Artists donate paintings that are no bigger than 14x14 framed. I was going to submit a butterfly painting I did, but someone just bought it. So I thought I'd do something a bit more whimsical to replace it - this ice cream picture (reference photo from pixabay.) Framed it will measure 7x11. Do you think it's ok as is?

Thanks, Mary Lou! Artists involved in this event get quite a lot of credibility for being "professional" - I've been in it the past 2 years, hope to make it for year 3!

Sharon

Sharon,

I love it.  Great color and a topic sure to catch people's eye.  Love having the bite out of it.

Personally, I would extend the stick to the bottom of the page.  (One in my freezer measures 3.5" for the ice cream and 2.25" for the stick.)

Regardless, it will be a hit at the show.

What a fun, well painted painting, Sharon. May I suggest a hint of a shadow along the right side of the ice cream & the stick that will, in effect, "lift" the subject from the background and make it more 3-dimensional.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments - means a lot to me! Here's the painting framed. Susan - I added the shadow as you suggested...and Mea, by framing it I cut off the stick to give the illusion of it being longer. Hope you guys like it!

Sharon
