This my completed painting of the still life

Now you can see how well the other paintings have been done.
I'm very proud of you all for following along :flowers:

NOTE: I have merged the 2 topics so as to keep the subject as a unit.

I find the black background suits your paintings well since the fruits and glass are brighter in colour. Mine is a bit darker on the whole, for which reason I decided to light the lamp.  :smiley6600:

Dennis - your painting is stunning!    When I get back from Chicago I'm finishing mine!!

Danielle - yours is stunning, too!! I'm so impressed!

Gita - I can't believe you did all you did in a day - you're amazing! I agree with Mea though, I think it's better without the halo. Other than that, bravo!!

  • SMILE, It's a brand new day!
Coming along famously, if you are going to keep the 'glow' around the chimney you may need to take out a bit more of the dark from close on the glass, and light up the back a bit...after it is lit of course  ;) . Not sure I said that right.  ???    If it doesn't make sense don't worry about it.

Wow, Dennis, you did as well as your students!!  That means you have to have taught them well.

Beautiful still life, everyone.  I never got beyond the first class, but hope to get back to it soon.

  • Never say die!

This is the start of my version of Dennis's Still Life with Pomegranates Lesson. I've failed to follow instructions from the very beginning, because I didn't find the template and drew my own version. Then when the first lesson came along I tried to adapt Dennis's instructions to my drawing and became quite confused. I further complicated matters by sitting down one afternoon and thinking I could remember his instructions, sigh! So now all the colours are wrong and the shadows are too deep. I'm now wondering if I should now plough on trying to adapt his instructions or should I start again?

Linley,

Hey, for freehand and not following directions, it still looks darn good.

Personally, I'd finish waht you have started as best you can.  (I'm lazy.)

Thanks Val, Sharon.
So I have two versions for printing:-). One with the lamp lit and one unlit.

I admit though that I was a bit dizzy after all that painting and correcting yest.

Thankyou Gita/  I'm in awe of your stamina. Love the idea of the lighted lamp. You always seem to add an individual touch to your paintings which I admire.

Gita,

Hard to decide which version is better.  I just feel that the halo of light behind the chimney is too distracting from the beauty of the rest of the painting.  Maybe if it were more of a hazy light with less defined edges, it would not draw the eye so much.

As for every other element in the painting, they are all superb, so masterfully done.

Great work, Gita.  You, Danielle, and Linley have really done so well on what looks to be a very difficult piece.
