Tea Still Life

Since doing Dennis' class, I'm now addicted to painting still lifes with a black background! This is based on a PMP photo by Cherry Aron. I really should be working on a dog commission, but just couldn't resist trying to paint this. Any suggestions?

Being that I am one of those Brit tea nuts
... and without seeing the photo... the tea looks a bit milky. I do love tea with lemon, but never with milk. Regardless, great painting but I just feel the tea needs to show a bit more natural tea colour/transparency. Oh.... no cakes?

I actually like milk in my tea, Val - learned that from living in England! Took me a while to get used to it I admit!
But here's the reference photo - let me know if I still need to lighten the liquid!

I would say a bit less brown in the colour and more of a pure yellow colour, (lemony as it were) quite light. Transparency is just so darn difficult to get.

Ok. I'll scrub it later and add more lemon yellow! Stay tuned!

Another beautiful still life, Sharon. The lemon slices on the left looks so real.
Agree with Val on the transparent vs. the milky tea.
Otherwise, a thing of beauty.

Love it!
Love milk in my tea. Everyone I know have milk in their tea.

Beautiful Sharon, agree, Lemonjuice goes with tea without milk, so a bit more transparency of the tea would be good. In the original the tea is without milk.
I drink blacktea with milk and sugar. Sometimes a bit of fresh ginger to it. My way of drinking " Chai".

Loving the milk/no milk discussion! Here's the best I can do. I can't scrub anymore - and the colors I used before seem to be staining colors - so in the photo I still get the milky look. In person it does look a bit more transparent. I think I need a cup of tea after doing this!

Right! Tea and Valium.
I've been on pins and needles waiting to see what happened!
Looks better, staining colours can really put a screw in the works. Has happened so many times to me. I'm a bit smarter now...I made a list of the most common colours I use, and split the list into staining and non-staining. Same for transparency. Makes it much easier to fix the mishaps.
Good job.

Valium - is that what Val is short for?!?
In person, the tea truly does look a lot less murky. And now I think I'll switch to coffee!!
