Here's my homework for a watercolor course (14 weeks) at Honolulu Museum of Art School. We were supposed to sketch 8 different views of the same subject. Next we have to turn one of them into a large watercolor painting. I am going to do the closeup (top - right.) Does the peacock look like a pregnant teenager in a prom gown?

Thanks, EmmaLee.  I painted a small sample of the one on top but it needs a lot of tweaking before I post it.

Where do you find the time Mea? Yes the top right. A couple seem to have been picked up by the neck  ;)

    Good job Mea and yes, I think the top right close up of the head would be lovely.

Here's the small sample sketch (5 x 7") I did from the set of eight drawings posted earlier.

At first it was going to be tossed out because I had drawn a couple mangoes on it and they looked out of place.  My teacher gave me some ideas to fix it and I think I saved it.  I feel pretty good about it now.

Any comments for improvements as I move on to the BIG version (11 x 14)?

Good background Mea. Maybe blend the crest feathers into the head and smooth the curve of the neck?

Nice subject Mea.  Maybe glaze the blue feathers with a turquoise blue.

Thanks, Mary Lou.  The color I did use to glaze the feathers was a turquoise.  Better try a different brand.

Bill, Thanks.  Not sure how to do either of your suggestions.  Will talk to my teacher about it.

OK, here's the larger version.
I may post it in the watercolor section, too, as that is where it really belongs, but just wanted to finish the progression from the pencil stage.

I used a different reference photo to get the details right.

Washed it with DaVinci iridescent blue with a slight touch of green. (Better, Mary Lou???)

Am taking it to class tomorrow to get help on doing the background.

Any more tweaks needed ?
