 I agree with Linley about the pink mat - it enhances and completes the picture.

This is a beautiful painting, Mea! The iridescent paint is perfect for it.

Just saw this adorable painting of yours, Mea!!! I love when a painting comes together so quickly as this did for you. Perhaps a series of Hawaiian fish would be a good thing to paint for one of your upcoming exhibits? Really love this!
Cheers,
Sharon

My angelfish has been well received - I had 250 postcards printed of it and half are gone already.  Since I need a painting for an exhibit next month, I did a larger version (8 x 10 for an 11 x14 mat/frame).

Only this time, I have to call it a "Longfin Bannerfish."  It seems that a tropical fish expert received my card and quickly informed me that it was not an angelfish (although Google had it listed as such).

I still have time to tweak it so please give me any hints to make it better.

  Are you going to use that pink mat again? It looked fantastic on Evie's picture.

Mea, this is so gorgeous!  :smitten:  :smitten:  :smitten: I have 2 tubes of iridescent paint, but I haven't used them because I can't figure out when/where to do so on a painting. You have inspired me!

Thanks, Susan.

What colors do you have?

Yes, the iridescents have limited use, but seemed perfect here.  Might be good at Christmas time, too.  Oh, just gave myself an idea - will work on my Christmas cards early this year.

Thanks, Linley.  No pink mat this time as this picture is much larger so will use an off white.

Google does tend to lump photos of various varieties together, makes things a bit confusing. Regardless of the fact, it's a lovely rendition. Just to make matters even more confusing.... it is also known as a Pennant Coralfish!  :D

Another charming fish - regardless of it's correct name! Now in the first one, you had some of the water darker for a different tonal perspective...Could you do the same with this painting to make the fish pop even more?

And bravo on the postcards swimming away so quickly!!
Cheers,
Sharon

Thanks, Sharon.

I can't remember what mix I used to get the water so dark in the last painting.  This one looks more tropical water-colored.  I do see what you mean about the POP factor.  I'll tweak it a bit.  Thanks for your valued input.

Thanks, Val.  I love adding more confusion to the mix!  I like Pennant Coralfish better.  Sounds classier.

Actually, I just looked up pennant coralfish and see that mine is more like the schooling bannerfish, so I will tweak it more around the face to get the correct coloring.  Mine does not have a long-enough "pennant" to qualify as a pennant coralfish.

Wow, there's a lot to this!!!  Is this zoology or art?

:2funny: We are an intellectual lot and will try anything!  I have a 2" thick book on tropical reef fish, and it is only one volume! Would love the whole set but too much  :cost:

Can't wait to see it finished and framed.  O0
