There is a public group on Facebook called #30x30DirectWatercolor2018. They are challenging participants to paint 30 quick & loose paintings in 30 days during the month of June. From what I have seen in the lead-up to this challenge, some participants are quite experienced; others are rank beginners. There's no pressure, other than to encourage people to paint quick & loose--NO pencil sketches beforehand. All the drawing is to be done in paint.

Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone might be interested.

I should add that the admin for this group is a fellow named Marc Taro Holmes, a watercolor artist who has written a book called Direct Watercolor. He believes in the method of painting directly onto the paper in a rather loose style with a minimum amount of preliminary work or mapping of the composition. His aim is for intuitive, spontaneous painting.

Here is a blog post by Marc explaining painting in positive and negative ways, still using his Direct Watercolor approach

Interesting way of painting.... maybe a later time perhaps?  I have enough issues getting paintings to look like the subject even after drawing!  :2funny:
