Dog
on: August 10, 2017, 03:08:06 AM
I got a bit excited when I saw a beautiful dog in the August challenge.   :yippee:  I decided to take a break from the class tonight and draw this dog instead.  It is nowhere near good enough for a real entry in the challenge, so I am posting it here instead.

I found I did not have the right colors, and that white pencil does not show up well on sketch paper.  Other than those two issues, I had a lot of fun drawing this dog.

Main thing, Mysti, is that you enjoyed the experience and learned from it.

Not bad, though.  Shows lots of promise.  I think a dark-toned paper would have enhanced it.

Mysti, I think you did a good job and with a little tweaking it is perfectly good to submit to the challenge.  If I may suggest, just darken the darks so that there is more tonal ranges and you will have a beautiful drawing.

:thankyou: Patricia!  I really appreciate the encouragement.

I think I need to get some better pencils in order to do this one right.  I tried making it darker where the shading is around the ear, but it just didn't work out.  These cheap color pencils don't seem to work the same way as the good graphite set I have.

If I make it to the store this weekend and find the dark paper and good pencils, I will give this one a go again.

Misti:  I like your dog.  He just needs a little more darks to bring out the shapes.  Good job.

Mysti, just reading over your posts here, and seeing that you so enjoyed drawing the dog, may I suggest that you do the "Drawing Dog Course".  It was such a wonderful course enjoyed by everyone who took it and is so beneficial for future drawings of dogs. I highly recommend it.

Thank you Val and Patricia!   :thankyou:   I really enjoyed the dog a lot.  I will take your advice Patricia and do the dog course when I finish the drawing course.  It looks like a lot of fun.  I also want to move into using color.
