Thanks mea and Win! I used hunters green for the background. Sent this to the hotel and they like it too! So yes, Win - a big battle won since I was nervous about the background. Had to use three layers of paint to get the wallpaper effect.
Cheers,
Sharon

I knew our "background queen" would do an awesome job.  It looks GREAT so far Sharon .... I had no doubt. Am looking so forward to seeing the final painting.

Aha!!!  :heeha: Sharon you are sneaky...  :sneaky: thought you could slip this one by me and my crystal ball did you?  :2funny:

Good news! Excellent job of the background.  O0   Agreed the collar should be black, the jacket perhaps a medium gray to charcoal?  You are well and away with this one. It will be positively marvelous darling, almost halfway there!  :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:
Cheers, Val

Thank you Patricia, Val and Mary Lou!

Patricia - I always think of you when I do my colored backgrounds!!!

Val - Glad that crystal ball is nearby! And I agree about the jacket color. I've painted the collar black and put a first layer of gray down. It's too light so once it's dry I'll add another darker layer.

Mary Lou - your belief in me means such a lot!
Cheers,
Sharon

There you go, so far very good  :yippee:

When you are done with this one... what about van Gogh self portrait?   I dreamed you would do it well.

Thanks Annie! If I do well with this portrait the hotel wants me to do one of another of their early owners - George Smith. Maybe then I'll tackle Van Gogh!

XOXO Patricia!!

Sharon

Wow, Sharon.  Another great opportunity.

Speaking of Van Gogh, I got to see his "Wheatfield with Sheaves" painting yesterday at the Honolulu Museum of Art.  I was really excited to see something he had actually done. Also saw two by Gaughan, a Renoir, and a Monet.

My friend, a fabulous artist, did this one of Van Gogh in an aloha shirt as part of his "Artist of Vacation" series.

He also has a great Mona Lisa with Diamond Head in the background.

:heeha:  Excellent resemblance! (despite the shirt, lol) Nice to see I'm not the only one that likes tacky shirts!

What a treat to see those paintings Mea! I am positively green  :envy: .

Seeing a Van Gogh in person is awesome - so happy you got to do that! I had the privilege to visit the Van Gogh museum years ago. And I used to have a framed poster of the painting he did of his bedroom in my own room for years. Love the aloha shirt!! Thanks for sharing!

Sharon

Thanks Gita!

Finished the collar.  Been playing around with creating charcoal gray and getting texture on the jacket. I've created the color mixing alizarim crimson with viridian green. Put a couple of light layers down. Then on the left shoulder I've tried to create a texture vs keeping it a flat color. What do you think before I continue?

Sharon

I think the jacket needs to be darker. Coming along nicely.  :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:
