My first attempt at  really using a paltette knife - just for the background.  I couldn't use it successfully for the bird itself. This is close to done, pending your thoughts for improvement.

Also where should I put my signature and what color?

I am really excited about how this is turning out.  UGH, just looked at the posting - the colors are much duller than they are in real life.

Ooh - I love the affect of the palette knife!!! Your background looks amazing and the colors aren't dull at all. Can you put your signature on the bottom right? Perhaps in white?
Cheers,
Sharon

Thanks, Sharon.  I will do more palette knife work.  I did the olive garden and the wild flower meadow lessons with Nolan, but still need more practice with the palette knife.

Yes, lower right corner in white sounds good for the signature.

Thanks, Robynann.  I really love those pesky little birds.  We have a whole backyard full of them.

I love this, Mea! The colors are beautiful and I really like how the texture of the background contrasts with the texture of the bird. Makes the bird pop against the background. Your on a roll with oils!

Excellent textures Mea! I was also going to suggest the bottom right corner for signature.

Thanks, Val.  Just made a major revision after looking closely at the mynah birds in my backyard.  Colors were all wrong.  Will repost tomorrow.

Funny thing with these black(ish) coloured birds..... the colouring of the feathers changes with the light!

Yes, Val, and the beak was yellowish orange, not white.

:flowers: :flowers: :flowers: Fabulous colors and textures, MAL!  Yes, if you gave him a yellow beak he will be a mynah; if not, he could be a handsome alala, Hawaiian crow, but without the white detailing.  Remember when you were the bus lady who painted the back of heads?  I was thinking that you could be the bird lady now with your nene, plover, roosters, mynah, what else?  :)  ~Liz

Thanks, Liz.  I want mine to be a true mynah, so it has to have the yellow beak.

Don't forget my pueo!!  It'll be in the Association of Hawaii Artists Miniature Show at Hoomaluhia.  Reception is Sat, Nov. 11, from 4 to 6.
