Painting Windows

I had a go at this on a 5x4" scrap of card. it was mostly OK until the very last when Dennis suddenly decided to lift out curtains and then a figure.... Well... the paper pilled like mad... I persisted trying tolift out the little rolls of paper with my brush. Finally tried masking it with Gouache white... Then I remembered Billy Showell the botanical artist saying she soothes irritated paper bu smoothing it gently with a rounded smooth gemstone (she uses rose quartz)  but I think I should have started the "soothing" as soon as the paper pilled, and abandoned attempts to put in the curtains and figure. Doesn't look all that bad from here Linley. I use the back of a teaspoon. Also works well if you get a small tear when peeling tape!

I don't know what you mean by horrible - this looks pretty darn good to me! And interesting tip on the teaspoon, Val!

I thought the painting was pretty good, except for the pilled paper. I had another go at buffing the pills with the stone this morning when it was dry, and that improved it some more. I think a suitable title might be "Ruffled Curtains".  I would like to have another go at this lesson another time in a bigger format, on better quality paper, or even as an acrylic. Val & Sharon.  I'll remember the teaspoon trick too just in case. But I do keep a polished stone paperweight on my desk. I'd have to get off my rear end and go downstairs for a teaspoon!
