Encouraged by my Two Swallows lesson I dug out some old photos taken in a most entertaining half hour photography session and came up with this. A little rough with the bird shapes and the colours of the wings didn't quite come up to what I was after. Again I'm learning from every painting I do. I'm very pleased with the background, maybe the best I've done.

Well done Bill. Great bit of photography there, not easy to catch these scenes. Nice painting as a result.

Bill

Yes, nice background.  Well blended for a smooth muted look

Great detailing on the wings.

Fledglings are so cute with their open mouths.

I like how you roughed up the white on their bodies to give depth to the feathers.

Even as thin as the wire is, you still gave a sense of texture to it.

My only suggestion is that your darkest darks could be a bit darker to make everything pop a little more.  You will hear us say that a lot - the darks are so important.  Ex. at the deepest part of the little birds mouths; in that hollow of the mother bird's tail; here and there in the wing details.

You are well on your way!

Bill:  Excellent job on the birds.  The babies look fluffy and hungry.  Like your background.
