This from a photo I took on a trip in August this year. A famous 13 century restored Castle in Scotland.  A very popular tourist attraction we stopped at on the way to the Isle of Skye.
I will take Val's advice and not give my thoughts on the painting, I'll leave it all to you nice people. :smitten:

Oh, this looks like such a beautiful location! There is a beautiful softness to your work, Bill, including this painting, which is lovely. I do think, though, that the rocks could use some sharper, more defined edges, which would play well against the softness of the distant foliage. Perhaps more tonal value, too? Maybe darken some of your greens.

.You have painted it in soft tones, Bill.    :)   I love Scotland.

A beautiful place it is indeed, Susan.

Bill, it is a lovely painting.

I am certain that after you posted it, you said to yourself, "It needs darker values."  But, you were trying to be true to Val's request that we refrain from criticizing our own work.

A few more darks, kind sir, and it will be even lovelier.

 Good on you Bill, it is hard to stop yourself spouting isn't it?! I'm terrible.  :2funny:

I also believe a few strategically placed darks, and revisit some of the shadow/shadings and you will have the most bonny castle in Scotland!  O0

I knew it would be worth the wait, Bill.  The contrasts really stand out now.

My favorite part is the person on the rocks.  The human touch gives the painting so much more drama.

Well done Bill. You've really put some life into the painting now. Gained dimension, and the castle just seems to stand out beautifully....almost like it has a glow on. Great stuff!
