It is during our church service so won't have a chance to attend.  Thankfully, I can watch the recorded version.  Hope it goes well as usual.

It's 1 hour after our church service, so I keep rushing home.  No eating out for Sunday lunch! :)

:'(  :'( :'( Something terrible happened to me today  :'( ... On the one major art site I belong to, they had a discussion (not the first one about this) to search your name... this is to see if there are any other sites using your info or images without permission etc.  Various artists have discovered their works being used on sites not having authority.

I did a search last week...
I discovered a few using my name and/or profile photo on their site ...which by the way has nothing to do with me... they are spammers etc.  have reported them to Google...

BUT when I did another search today...got a few more which I reported...however the last link... was a T-R-O-J-A-N...  :cursing: :banghead: I probably have the best Internet Security/Anti-Virus...the one with the big K... it showed 2 was deleted, however nr3 could not be deleted... and I have all the settings on maximum security as well as to block anything suspicious.  I feel sooo lost...not sure what to do or how to disinfect it.  Wonder if it would help to format my hard-drive and just re-load everything from scratch.  :'( :'( :'(  (using my son's laptop at the moment)

Therefore I only logged onto the Webinar just after about 10... but couldn't get the chatbox going... nothing serious... I just feel so down about the above AND it is a brand new laptop ... I just hope and pray it can be saved.  Will watch the replay sometime.

Leana, how awful for this to happen to you, I can't believe the nerve of people to do such a thing. I had problems myself but this takes the biscuit. :o

My son was playing games on my computer over the Xmas period, via the internet of course and I ended up with 421 corrupt files, PC World told me these online games are nortorious, despite anitvirus programme running, they can hack anything these days. Hence 120 Euro to put right, think of what art supplies I could have obtained for that amount...........

Leana, I'm shocked!

That's scary!!!   I didn't know such a thing could happen.  It sure is important to have the best security available on our computers.  Even then, I think they have a hard time keeping up with all the bad that's out there.

I think there's a way we can put a watermark on our pictures before we post them, not sure how that's done.  I'm not very computer savy.

OMG this is terrible Leana.  I did not know about this either.  Better make sure we sign our paintings and like Lillian said somehow put a watermark on them. The internet is such a wonderful tool it is too bad that there are those that have to corrupt everything.  Scary indeed

create a logo or image with a transparent background and then paste that over your photo inside your image program (like Photoshop) then save it with another name, eg save "tree1.jpg" as tree1-watermarked.jpg" so that you still have your original, unwatermarked image for use in other places.

Unfortunately theft is rife on the Internet as it is so easy to just copy and paste - that is why we watermark all our videos as well.

  Thank you everyone...

You see, even if you sign your work (which I do) or watermark them yourself in photoshop etc (plus the watermark  is put on automatically on the site I am on each upload)... people still steel them.  There is a program that actually lets you remove watermarks off a photo when stolen of the internet...and it only takes them a few minutes to remove it.  Well that is the talks on the site and there are quite a few techy people on there. If you want I can find out which program it is... but believe me it exists... so no matter how you sign or watermark...people can still get rid of it and use your stuff.

I have decided lastnite... that's the last time I search for my name and stuff.  What will be, will be.  It is just not very nice when people use your Name and profile photo on their site...where they have written a review on some or other product...it makes it look like I wrote the review... these guys are spammers.  When you get a lot of hits on your site... they like to use your details in their tags too... so people searching for you might clic on their link (even that it has absolutely nothing to do with my art or art in general)... voilla... they get extra hits...which help moving them up in Google search etc.

But to put a virus on a link I think is the lowest of the low.  Going down to the computer shop in about an hours time, will then know if they are able to help.  I don't mind if the 'format' the hard-drive...all the info I need is on my flash-drive... will see what they say and give you feedback.

:thankyou: again for your emotional support everyone...it truly is much appreciated.

Leana!   :1hug: :1hug:  That's a huge inconvenience for you.  I'm sure you'd rather be  :painting:

I hope the folks at the computer shop can help you out and give you some peace of mind.

What a pain in the proverbial Leana, sometimes I have a feeling these crooks and good-for-nothings won't be beaten however hard we try... BUT - I'm running Linux Ubuntu and don't have any problems with virusses (viri??) - ever.  And I'm not adding to the wealth of the fat cats either LOL   :sneaky:  'cos it's free.

It's a different story with the copycats out there though - those I choose to ignore, and then I just move on to the next thing..... like painting oil paintings in acrylic!!   :nosey:

..thanks to Nolan  :thankyou: :yippee:

Hi everyone, thank you so much for all your support...I truly appreciate it... phew , what a hectic past 2 days.

Went to the computer shop yesterday morning as they opened.  Got excellent service from the technician that helped me.  He formated the hard-drive...i.o.w. re-installed Windows from scratch... so it took the computer back to the original factory settings.  I had to go back to the shop (could only do that after my husband got back from work)...because when I tried to load my anti-virus...the pre-installed demo anti-virus couldn't be removed... they have a removal 'tool' at the shop.  Once that was done, the major job of re-loading my anti-virus and all my programs started as well as setting all security levels etc etc.  I only finished a while ago with everything... seeing that everyhting is up and running now...I started by checking my emails...then saw the notice of the class this evening... :'( ... I tried to log on just before 10... but experienced problems with the text box and the system kept buffering... (which I don't experience in the re-plays).  So all in all I suppose I am missing out totally on tonites class.   :'( oh well... like the saying goes... you win some, you loose some.

At least my computer is up and running and that is a good thing  O0

Leana,    :1hug:

I'm sorry for all you've had to go through.  Computers are great when everything works, very frustrating if not!

I hope your computer performs well for you from now on.  Sorry you missed the class.   :(

Leana, I would take the thumb drive to have it checked for viruses as well.  Once it touches an infected PC it can affect others.

:thankyou: for the advice Kelly.  I have K-aspersky Lab internet security... when I plug it into my laptop it asks to scan them prior to use... I do a full scan on them before each use... this should be sufficient... or what would you say
