My client has asked me to paint portraits of her mom and dad. Here's the ref photo of the dad (who died several years ago from Alzheimers) and my painting of him. Wondering if I should go darker on the skin? Any thoughts on tweaks to make this better?
Cheers,
Sharon

I agree the shoulders need a bit of remodeling. The shoulders look a a bit too 'hunched' (?) /rounded. I think the skin tone just needs to be toned down a bit. There is a darker area above and to the side of his left eye. Small rework of the left nostril and you'll have a cracker likeness.

no fears Neil about usurping - I'm also so appreciative of any comments and I know they're all designed to help me get better as a painter! I'll definitely check out the youtube clips. I'll be posting my revisions soon. This is a conservative client so a looser style wouldn't be her cup of tea. Plus they're Mexican so I'm trying to stay true to a darker complexion to reflect the heritage. Stay tuned!
Cheers,
Sharon

Knowing now that he is Mexican, I think the skin tone should be a bit more to a brown(ish) tone. At present he looks great, but more Caucasian.

I mentioned in one of my posts a while back that good things were still to come and here they are.  Wonderful and hearty congratulations to you!! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

Thanks Patricia! Between you and Val's crystal ball I feel like I've my fairy godmothers watching out for me! What's really significant about this is the fact that 1) I'm a Sacramento artist in a San Francisco museum and 2) there are really very few female artists in museums these days, so this is a huge accomplishment as a woman.  I'm so honored they want to do this!!
Cheers,
Sharon

Just caught up with this one, Sharon.  Looks great after the shoulder redo!

Great news about the TV feature on your portrait work.

So proud of you.
