I can't find a thread for this lesson so pardon me if I've missed it! I've been making attempts to paint with oils lately - still love watercolors more, but it's fun to experiment with a new medium. I've also been painting a few Tuscan themed pictures recently and thought this lesson was the perfect compliment. I've never painted with a palette knife before and I love the texture and 3D effects it creates! I went small on this - 8x10 - since I had a spare canvas hanging around. Would appreciate any feedback from my oil painting PB members!

How about from a former oily from another era?
I enlarged the painting to the max, and..... the flowers and leaves are beautiful. The textures and form you have created are brilliant. You must do more with the knife, it looks a love match made in heaven. No lie.
Banner job.
When I painted with oils, the knife was my weapon of choice. Loved it. You have the magic touch.

Ahhh - thanks Val!!! I can't wait to try Nolan's other lesson using the palette knife - it may become my go to tool when doing oils in the future!!

Your painting looks great Sharon. Nice flowing strokes with the knife.
You will be a natural at knife work so I do suggest you try your hand at a few more

Thanks Dennis & Nolan! I'm glad I did this with water-soluble oils - hoping it won't take as long to dry with all of those knife strokes! Nolan - which classes use a palette knife? I know the Olive Grove is one that I'll try next! Fun to be learning a new medium and a new tool!

Your knife technique makes the flowers look alive, maybe bobbing a little in a gentle breeze.
