Thank you to Dennis for getting me started in watercolor.  I am enrolled now in a 14-week course in watercolor (one 3-hour session a week) at the Honolulu Museum of Art School.  It's being taught by Jimmy Tablante who is a fabulous watercolorist.  He has quite a gallery on this Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/pg/Calinan-Then-and-Now-161932127275413/photos/?tab=album&album_id=162153880586571](https://www.facebook.com/pg/Calinan-Then-and-Now-161932127275413/photos/?tab=album&album_id=162153880586571)

Here is my homework for this week - we had to do a series of pencil drawings showing different angles, perspectives, etc.of the same subject.  Then we had to pick one and paint it.  I did a small one first for practice, then just finished putting iridescent paint on the large one.  Will add the background in class as I do not want to mess it up on my own.

Any tweaks before I add the background?

Looks great Mea, best of luck with the background. Will it be the same as the one above?

Thanks, Val.  The reference photo showed a very light background, with muted turquoise tail feathers.  Not sure what I will do yet.

May make a couple prints of it on paper and try out a couple of different backgrounds.

I'm impressed you've started with a peacock - they're tough to do, but you really have captured him beautifully! Can't wait to see it with the background...maybe a lighter color so it doesn't dominate the delicateness of the peacock's plumage...
Cheers,
Sharon

Well done Mea. Excellent start.   I agree with Sharon something very light as this is just beautiful as is.

Thanks, Val, EmmaLee, TeresaM, and Sharon.

I brought the unfinished painting to class after printing two copies of it, then experimenting with different backgrounds.  Yes, the light background will work best was the general agreement.

   Just leave it as a light plain background to make it stand out without distractions O0

Nice work and subject Mea.  I agree with Sharon, a tough subject to start with but you have done a great job.  Have fun in your classes.  You are progressing rapidly

Thanks, Dennis and Mary Lou.

Yes, a light background will do for this.  Hope to finish it this weekend.

Homework this week was land or seascapes.

This is Barbers Point Lighthouse in the south west corner of Oahu.

I will enter it in the Honolulu Country Club exhibit next month. Still have time for tweaks if you see something that needs improving.

May title it "Spring Sunset at Barbers Point" as the theme of the exhibit is "Shades of Spring."

Patricia,

Thank you.  I am pleased with it.  First time I ever made all those volcanic stones on the ground.
