Hi everyone, I would love to have your thoughts on a recent event.  I entered my "Roses in Glass" in a local art show.  The show ended today and I picked up my painting and there was a note attached from the judge.  Here is her note and the framed painting in reference:

I am thrilled that she loved the glass and that had the painting been "complete" it would have received first place.  What I do not understand is how it is not complete?  She suggested a richer red for the roses and then to re-enter the painting. (My thought is that roses come in all different hues).  What would you do?  I am not sure I want to take this apart and fool with it.  Maybe just take the compliment as such..just thought I would share this.  Interesting how we see things differently with art.

Mary Lou,

I have been in at least 8 juried shows in the past two years and have never seen a juror do something like that.  Some will personally tell you how they felt about your work after the judging if you ask, but that poorly scribbled note is so unprofessional.

Are you familiar with this person?  Is this the way she does things all the time?  Are you even sure she wrote it?

I totally agree with your assessment - it's beautiful as it is.

Aloha

There is nothing wrong with your  rose    That is only the personal opinion of the "Judge".  During judging one cannot tell the participant the madify a painting, bring it back, and then they will get first place. Only one judging is allowed. Please ignore the note and pat yourself on the back. :flowers:

Thank you so much Mea and Dennis for the quick response.  When I picked up the painting they told me the judge left me a note.  So I guess, it really was whoever judged the show.  I really don't know how the judge is selected. or who she is. It took me a bit to read it because of the handwriting. I also thought, gee, how unprofessional.

I feel better having you both react the way I did.  :thankyou:  I will put this to rest and the painting is being displayed on my wall.

In the meantime, I will finding another outlet for my paintings.  Thank you so much!

:nono: To that judge. Your painting is not 'incomplete', and the colour of the roses is perfectly fine. Some people are  :hang: hung up on red roses. I however am not so  :P to that. I like your roses just fine the way they are. It's brilliant.  O0

A great picture and I agree with above comments.
How can the picture be reentered if the show is over and what about the selected winner?   :( Looks like someone is pulling your chain.

Thank you Val, Bill and Patricia.  Very strange, and I thought rather unprofessional.  Bill, this group has a show every three months and  she wanted me to enter again in the next show...this show had already ended.

I really appreciate your comments and does support the confidence I had in this painting.

OMG - that judge is so inappropriate and I would take that letter to whoever hired her to be the judge. She should be disqualified from ever judging art in the future. Your roses are gorgeous - and she's an idiot to not know that red roses come in a variety of hues. Please don't take this personaly - this judge knows NOTHING about art - especially something as beautiful as your painting.
Cheers,
Sharon

That's not on.  :cursing: So she is saying she will give you 1st place if you fix your painting the way she wants it? Not fair to you or anyone else that enters the competition. Fore drawn conclusion. I agree with Sharon she should be reported and removed from judging. Disgraceful.

Mary Lou,
Interpreted that way, it borders on bribery & corruption!!
I love the colour of your roses - they would be the colour I, personally,  would choose over red.
But, maybe the lady meant you should paint another similar picture with her favourite - the red roses, - and re-enter in the next show.
Even so, I do fully agree that her behaviour was totally wrong, unprofessional, & unacceptable.
If possible, put this in your book of experiences & carry on painting with your heart & soul!  :smitten: :painting:

Thanks Sharon, Val, Cath and Linley....

I called the organization and left a voicemail and also sent an email.  Waiting for them to reply, so far have not heard from them. I will let you know as soon as I hear.
