This is a line and wash of my husband's 1931 model A ford that is chopped and channeled.  Your comments are appreciated.

Very nicely done!
My advice as always is "Darken up the shadows". Shadows make the artwork so dimensional, the darker the better. In fact when I start a piece like this I select the darkest areas and shade them the blackest I can get them first. That sets the tonal range for everything else.

What a beauty.  Love old cars and that lends itself well to pen and ink.  Agree with Brian on the darks.

Your husband is going to love it.

    Wow, Mary Lou, your drawing of the old Ford is fantastic.  It is so neatly done and a real pleasure to view.  My son-in-law loves old cars and he goes to all the shows exhibiting the oldies.

Thank you Brian, Mea and Patricia.  I will darken those shadows,  I thought it needed it. My husband thinks it needs something in the background, and I think it is fine as is showcasing just the car.  What do you think?

Love this! I believe once you darken those shadows that your husband will feel differently that something is needed in the background...
Cheers,

Thank you Sharon and Dennis.  I darkened the shadows, I also added a subtle hint of the ground and my husband likes it a lot now and agees no background.

Update:  He loved this and now is framed and hung. Thank you, the changes made it better.

I'll bet he liked it, see how the shadows have made it stand out on the paper?
So glad we could help, to have a friend who suggests those little things that make a piece really jump is one of the joys of art.
