I'm helping Val out this month – Brian (scouserl41)

Post your drawing for July 2018 Challenge here.

1/ Post only one drawing per person. Post only your finished drawing. If you need help, post it in the encourager section.

2/ Do your best to keep your entry as close as possible to the original Challenge photo. Please DO NOT make additions to the subject unless otherwise stated. We try to maintain a fair and equal field for all entries from beginner to advanced.
Feel free to use the subject photos in your own creation BUT place it in the Encourager section, NOT in the challenge. Thank you for your ongoing support of these challenges.

3/ Any SINGLE dry drawing medium may be used....Graphite, Coloured Pencil (lead), Charcoal, or Ink may be used. If it is not specifically listed, DON'T USE IT! If you are unsure, PM me directly.

4/ When posting your entry, please list type of pencils etc. used. Not mandatory, but appreciated as it may help someone with less experience.

5/ HAVE FUN ! Brian.

My submittal for the July drawing challenge done in a combination of Staedler and Supracolor II pencils on sketchbook paper.

The hard part was getting the adobe color without making it too dark.

Good pastime on a rainy day in Wisconsin.
(and I cheated and changed the color of the chair to make it stand out!)

Herewith is my July drawing challenge done on Canson Bristol smooth paper with Faber Castell pencils and some cheap pencils.

Once the challenge is over, could someone please enlighten me as to how one can put white pencil over black pencil?  For the life of me, I could not accomplish that with the 'Sheriff's Office' name plate. Thanks a ton.  Patricia

Crumbs, I have just noticed that I have entered the original and not the cropped photo.  My apologies.   Patricia

Another excellent piece, Patricia.

Sorry, never worked with white pencil over black.  Will be interested in what you learn.

:thankyou:  Win and it is nice to see you posting again.

:thankyou:  Mea and yes, it will be interesting if someone who is more familiar with coloured pencils could inform us how to accomplish that feat!

Great job Patricia, you get so much depth to the colors with the same pencils I struggle with.
You can't get white over black. I carefully shaded around the letters to make them stand out, too small to get them perfect but enough to suggest the lettering. For the window frame I did as you would do with water colors, I used a sharp blade to scape away the black after I laid it on and that lets the thin white lines thru.

:thankyou: :thankyou:  so much MaryLou and Brian for your sweet comments.

:thankyou:  too Brian, for your explanation of white over black. On the Sheriff's name plate, I tried scraping the black away with a sharp knife as well and made a hole where the "S" is so decided to just erase the black and leave the lettering as is. However, next time, I will try something else and if it works, I will inform you all.
